Fructificationes oblate sphaeroideae vel irregulares, 1-1.5 cm. diametro<br />

metientes, luteae, obscuriores siccatae, superficie fibrosa, subaspera; basis sterilis<br />

parva, pulvinata; peridium 120-180 ,u (55-100 1A siceatum) crassitudine, luteum,<br />

extus stuposum, intus laxe prosenehymaticum; gleba lutea vel "snuff-brown"<br />

("bone-brown" siccata post conservationem); septa 24-32 ,u inter hymenia,<br />

hyphis luteis laxe contexta, scissilia in angulis; basidia late clavata, tri- vel tetra-<br />

spora, sterigmatibus tenuissimis, 5-7 1A longitudine, hyalina; sporae luteae, late<br />

ovoideae, insuper rotundatae, saepe pedicellatae, episporio crasso, tenuibus cum<br />

rugis brevibus, uniguttulatae, 12-13 (-14.5) x 9.5-11 (-14) ,u.<br />

Type: in Dudley Herb. at Stanford, Zeller <strong>and</strong> Dodge<br />

Herbaria.<br />

Fructifications oblate-spheroidal to irregular, about 1-1.5<br />

cm. in diameter, yellow, drying darker, surface fibrousroughened;<br />

sterile base slight, pulvinate; peridium 120-180 j<br />

(drying 55-100 /) thick, yellow, stupose without, loosely prosenchymatous<br />

within; gleba yellow, then snuff-brown (drying<br />

bone-brown after preservation); septa 24-32 , between hymenia,<br />

of loosely interwoven yellowish hyphae, scissile at the<br />

angles; basidia hyaline, broadly clavate, 3-4-spored with very<br />

slender sterigmata 5-7 /A long; spores yellow, broadly ovoid,<br />

rounded above, often pedicellate, exospore thick, sculptured by<br />

small, short ridges, uniguttulate, 12-13 (-14.5) x 9.5-11(-14) .<br />

In s<strong>and</strong>y soil, 7-10 cm. beneath the surface, under Fraxvinus<br />

oreganc <strong>and</strong> Quercus agrifolia. California. February <strong>and</strong><br />

March.<br />

Fructifications disciform, the size of a Bohemian "Heller-<br />

linse "lentil, yellowish-white to cream-color; peridium thin,<br />

composed of floccose, swollen hyphae as in. septa; gleba gray-<br />

white, becoming cream-color; basidia short, narrow-cylindrical,<br />

2-spored; spores 12-16 x 5-7 ,/, not apiculate, with a very short<br />

but fairly broad pedicel, ellipsoid, exospore wrinkled, brown-<br />

yellow.
