fibrous-striate, yellowish within and without, 5-7.5 cm. long, 6-8 mm. thick.<br />
TYPE LOCALITY: Greig, New York.<br />
HABITAT: Ground in woods.<br />
DISTRIBUTION: New York.<br />

Pileus convex or centrally depressed, 2.5-5 cm. broad; surface glabrous, hygrophanous,<br />
pale-alutaceous, margin generally irregular, wavy or lobed; lamellae crowded, thin, abruptly<br />
emarginate, alutaceous; spores minute, about 4X2/i; stipe slightly thickened at the top,<br />
glabrous, hollow, concolorous, whitish-villose at the base, 2.5-4 cm. broad, 4-6 mm. thick.<br />
TYPE LOCALITY: Memphis, New York.<br />
HABITAT: Under white cedar trees.<br />
DISTRIBUTION: Known only from the type locality.<br />
45. Melanoleuca alabamensis Murrill, sp. nov.<br />
Pileus irregularly convex, at length subexpanded, solitary, reaching 5-6 cm. broad; surface<br />
dry or slightly viscid, yellowish-gray or subolivaceous, dusky on the disk, where it is often<br />
ornamented with blackish fibrils, margin entire, incurved on drying; context firm, dirty-white,<br />
mild or slightly unpleasant, without distinct odor; lamellae deeply sinuate, subcrowded, broad,<br />
somewhat ventricose, dull-yellowish-white, the edges undulate or uneven; spores ellipsoid,<br />
smooth, hyaline, 6-7X4-5 ju; stipe subcylindric, fibrous or somewhat scaly, sordid-white,<br />
spongy or solid within, 5-8 cm. long, 1-1.5 cm. thick.<br />
Type collected on the ground in pine woods near Auburn, Alabama, December 26, 1900, Mrs.<br />
F. S. Karle. Also collected in the same locality, December 15, 1900, and January 5, 1901, Mrs. F. S-<br />
Earle.<br />
DISTRIBUTION: Alabama.<br />
46. Melanoleuca longipes Murrill, sp. nov.<br />
Pileus conic to convex and at length expanded, the umbo disappearing with age, gre-<br />
garious, reaching 8-<strong>10</strong> cm. broad; surface smooth, glabrous, polished, pallid or glaucous to<br />
pale-olive, becoming brownish or blackish when bruised, margin entire, even, concolorous;<br />
context white, mild, odor not characteristic; lamellae sinuate, distant, ventricose, fragile,<br />
white, becoming grayish or brownish-discolored with age or when bruised; spores ellipsoid,<br />
smooth, hyaline, 5-6 X 2-3 p ; stipe very long, subequal, usually curved or twisted, longitudinally<br />
striate, glabrous, white, hollow, reaching <strong>10</strong>-15 cm. long, 1-2 cm. thick.<br />
Type collected on the ground under balsam fir trees on the grounds of the Lake Placid Club,<br />
Adirondack Mountains, New York, October 3-14, 1912, W. A. & Edna L. Murrill 1161.<br />
DISTRIBUTION: New York and Massachusetts.<br />

Pileus convex or nearly plane, sometimes centrally depressed, 7.5-12.5 cm. broad; surface<br />
moist, glabrous, dingy-green, margin sometimes wavy or lobed; lamellae close, white, gradually<br />
narrowed toward the outer extremity, rounded or slightly emarginate behind, white; spores<br />
broadly ellipsoid, 5X3.7 p; stipe subequal, stuffed or hollow, thick but fragile, whitish, some-<br />
times tinged with green, 7.5-<strong>10</strong> cm. long, 12-24 mm. thick.<br />
TYPE LOCALITY: <strong>North</strong> Elba, New York.<br />
HABITAT: On mossy ground in open woods.<br />
DISTRIBUTION: Known only from the type locality.
