Animal affected: Horse, mule, donkey<br />

Symptoms/lesions: There is increased respiration. The force of abdominal contraction is increased. The affected horse<br />

shows low tolerance to work, gradual weakness, anaemia and coughing, untreated <strong>animal</strong>s usually die.<br />

Treatment/Control: Deworm the <strong>animal</strong>. Give a course of penicillin/ streptomycin injection and haematinic mixture.<br />

46. Urea poisoning: (accidental intake)<br />

Animal affected: All <strong>animal</strong>s<br />

Symptoms/lesions: Severe abdominal tremors, dyspnoea, bloat, bellowing, violent movements.<br />

Treatment/control : Vinegar upto 4 litres for cow or administration of 5% Acetic acid in repeat doses after 30 minutes.<br />

47. Lantana poisoning (L. camara)<br />

Animal affected : Cattle, sheep and goat<br />

Symptoms/lesions : Lethargy, Ruminal stasis, Photosensitization, anorexia, constipation, jundice.<br />

Treatment/Control: Activated charcoal 2-4 kg, MgSo4 1 kg or MgSo4 500 gm + NaCl 500 gm. Remenotoric drugs. Avil 20<br />

ml i/m, Vit. A & B.<br />

48. Ohi poisioning (Abizia stiputat)<br />

Animal affected: Sheep & goat<br />

Symptoms/lesions: There is severe ruminal statis/tympany and constipation, Abdominal pain and hepatic dysfunction.<br />

Treatment/Control: Stop feeding of leaves. Rumenotorics, laxative/purgative should be given, Liver extract is beneficial.<br />

49. Ageratum poisoning.<br />

Animal affected: Sheep, goat, cattle and buffalo.<br />

Symptoms/lesions: Blood in the faeces, dehydration, weakness, liver dysfunction, anorexia.<br />

Treatment/Control: Styptindon 5-15 ml i/m or other styptics, fluid therapy, liver extract i/m.<br />

50. Bracken fern Poisoning: (Enzootic bovine haematuria)<br />

Animal affected: Cattle<br />

Symptoms/lesions: Blood in the urine, weakness, anaemia. Cancer of urinary bladder in later cases.<br />

Treatment/Control: Stop feeding the braken fern. Haematinics, Liver extract, Blood transfusion, Styptic therapy<br />

(Styptindon/chromostat).<br />

51. Nitrate/nitrite poisoning (Nitrate/nitrite rich fodders are maize, bajra etc.)<br />

Animal affected: Cattle, buffalo, rarely sheep & goat.<br />

Symptoms/lesions: Respiratory difficulty, staggering gait, falling and sudden death.<br />

Treatment/Control: Blood becomes chocolate brown in colour. Urine is positive for nitrate/nitrite. Treat with Vit. C and<br />

methylene blue.<br />

52. Hydrocyanic acid poisoning: (Jowar, Baru, linseed cake etc.)<br />
