Race 11 Selections by K.B.M. THE HORSEPLAYERS JOURNAL
10 FINAL CURTAIN is a longshot I’m going to take a shot on in tonight’s wide-open finale. The veteran is two starts into a comeback, and he hasn’t
shown much in those first two starts off-the-shelf for trainer Sue Gangell. He put up decent numbers last season, however, including a 1:52.4 race
record earned over this oval. There’s no standout in here and that’s why I’ve opted to swing for the fences. If he wins he should light up the board.
4 SUPERBOWL PARTY enters this assignment with an 0-for-11 record for the season, and he’ll need to catch a few breaks along the way if he
wants to crack the goose egg in here. He has a history of getting away slowly, and that’s clearly affected his performances in each of his last two
tries. He gets an ideal post position to work from tonight for trainer Rob Fellows, who is 5-for-40 (12%) at Woodbine this month.
3 JAC SPADE has hit the board in half of this year’s assignments, and I’ll look for him to bolster those totals by coming up with another solid
performance in here. The gelding got hung up in traffic in each of his last three outings, but he still managed to rally for small shares in all three of
those tilts. He gets an improved post position to work from tonight and that might be all the edge he needs to be a bigger factor.
8 MY FELLA started the month of March with a pair of good-looking efforts, but his last two starts were ugly ones. The classy veteran has another
outside post position to deal with in his quest to get back on track. The 51-time winner has bounced back from mini slumps in the past, and that’s
why I’ve included him among the contenders in this spot. Even though his form has been poor he must be respected because of his back class.
(1) NJS TRICK PISTOL has gone home empty handed in each of his last three starts over this oval. One thing he has going for him tonight is a
heaping helping of post position relief. That might not be enough to push him over the edge, but it can’t hurt.
(2) MACH MY WORD was nearly three weeks out of the box going into last week’s debut for trainer Arnie Marks. He was added to the Lasix
program in that effort, but he still lacked staying power. He gets back on a seven-day rotation and has drawn a favourable post. He can improve.
(5) YOUVE GOT BANKERS has taken home the show dough in each of his last two tries at Flamboro Downs, but he’ll have to work much harder if
he wants to take home prize money against this group of tougher foes.
(6) ROCK OF LUCK is a combined 1-for-39 over the last two seasons, and that makes him an auto toss when it comes to looking for win threats in
this group. He still merits some consideration for the bottom of exotic wagers. Trainer Rene Allard is 10-for-31 (32%) at Woodbine this month.
(7) SPIKE HANOVER has hit the board in half of this year’s assignments, but his latest performance was nothing to write home about. He got
shuffled to eighth and finished eighth in that outing. He’s capable of bouncing back and coming up with an improved effort in here.
(9) AINT NO HEARSAY was claimed back by owner/trainer Catherine Laurin Chouinard on Feb. 10, but since reacquiring the pacer he has
struggled. Things won’t be any easier from the outside of the starting gate. I’ll take a pass on him in here.
