SENIORCORNER
By Sonny DiSabato
Senior Citizen Coordinator
Hello fellow seniors. Welcome to
2013! I wish everyone a healthy and
prosperous New Year.
There are many services available in
Pennsauken for our citizens. For example,
our Assessor’s Office, run by John
Dymond and Shakir Ali, serves and answers
all questions pertaining to senior,
disabled, and veteran discounts for property
taxes. They also provide information
regarding New Jersey’s property tax reimbursement
program. I see firsthand
the extra care and attention they give to
our seniors, they are a great part of our
Great Township Resources, Programs For Seniors
our Pennsauken family.
If you have access to a computer, or
have a family member or friend who
does, you can find more information
about New Jersey’s property tax relief
programs at http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/relief.shtml.
Please note that you or
your spouse needs to own your home,
and that you will need to meet specific
income and residency requirements in
order to benefit from these programs.
You can also find the forms for tax deductions
for seniors, the disabled and veterans
by visiting Pennsauken Township’s
web site at www.twp.pennsauken.nj.us
and clicking on the link for Forms and
Celebrate Life,
Embrace Faith.
Before It
Decorated a Wall,
It Decorated a Man
Let us not forget that the medals
and citations that hang in our
hallways and above our mantels
were not given for decoration, but
rather dedication. Dedication to our
nation, its values and its ideals. Men
earned these honors for our children.
And for their children.
We should never let them forget
the power of a life. Ask about our
service for veterans.
Pennsauken Lions
Club Celebrates 70
Years Of Service
The Pennsauken Lions Club is looking
for former members and friends to
come and help them celebrate their 70th
anniversary.
The celebration dinner will be held on
Monday, Mar. 18 at Pennsauken Fire
Company Number 2’s reception hall,
2215 Merchantville Ave. The catering will
be done by Lions Club President Sharon
Rush, owner of Macaro’s Catering.
Over the last 70 years, the Lions have
served Pennsauken Township in a variety
of ways. The Lions help Santa “attend”
our town’s annual Holiday Parade;
sponsor eye screenings to catch Amblyopia
(lazy-eye), a condition that can be
easily corrected if caught early; and provide
eye glasses and other eye-related
help to those in the Township who may
not be able to afford it themselves. The
Lions also support Best Work Industries,
a nonprofit that gives visually impaired
people training and employment.
Eye-related issues are not the only
causes the Lions support. The nonprofit
sponsors one of the biggest Leo clubs in
the state, as well as the local Boy Scout
Troop. Annually, the Lions provide multiple
scholarships to Pennsauken High
School, Howard M. Phifer Middle
School, and to eighth graders at both St.
Peter’s and St. Ceclia’s. In addition, the
Lions hold a Youth Appreciation Night,
where the youth leaders from the Leos
and the Boy Scout Troop are recognized
for their accomplishments. There is also
the Citizen of the Year dinner, where the
Lions recognize and honor someone
from within the community.
If you were a member of the Lions, or
are in contact with someone who was a
Lion and may be interested in attending
this fun night of remembrance and celebration,
please email Pennsaukenlionsclub@comcast.net
or call Sharon Rush
at Macaro’s Catering 856-665-5286.
