Page 26 ALL AROUND PENNSAUKEN January 2013 Pennsauken Business Owners Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) New Jersey, Southern Chapter celebrated National Philanthropy Day by honoring several local fundraising executives and volunteers, including two Pennsauken business owners. The award for Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year was given to Dan and Jake Garrison of Garrison Printing Company in Pennsauken. The brothers were nominated by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of South Jersey and Temple University. A family-run business for over 50 years, Garrison Printing Company has consistently provided in-kind and discounted printing and design services to numerous health agencies, hospitals and other non-profit organizations. The agenda includes the swearing in of a new Mayor, Deputy Mayor and new Committee members and township appointments to various positions. The new committee will then set meeting dates for 2013 for the Township Committee. All future public meetings, excluding the Reorganization Meeting, are held at the Pennsauken Municipal Building, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd., at the corner of Route 130 and Merchantville Avenue at the times specified. All Around Pennsauken posts these public meetings in each issue. Changes to the meeting schedule will be advertised in the Courier-Post and Retrospect newspapers. Merchantville Class of 47 Donates Memorial Stone After its 65th Reunion, the Merchantville High School Class of 1947 Reunion Committee purchased a memorial stone for placement in front of the Merchantville Elementary School, which was the former location of the high school. January 2013 ALL AROUND PENNSAUKEN Page 27 Food Bank Partners With Bank Of America To Fight Hunger The Food Bank of South Jersey has announced a partnership with Bank of America through Feeding America’s “Give a Meal” program. For every $1 donated to Feeding America or the Food Bank of South Jersey, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will contribute an additional $2, up to a total match of $1.5 million. This is in addition to an initial $1 million contribution to Feeding America. This support is part of Bank of America’s ongoing effort to address critical economic and social issues in the communities it serves. “Critical.” is how Val Traore describes the food bank’s current needs. “We have growing numbers of people needing food, needing supplies, needing services. And it’s always a challenge to raise Gifts Of The Heart Are True enough revenue to help them all.” The Food Bank of South Jersey has seen food distribution increase from 8 million pounds in 2009 to an anticipated 14 million pounds in 2014. “There is an urgent need to help individuals and families at risk of hunger, even more so in New Jersey this holiday season in the wake of Hurricane Sandy,” said Bob Doherty, New Jersey president, Bank of America. “The Give a Meal program enables people to triple the impact of their donation toward hunger relief.” Donating to Give a Meal is simple.
