Message from the CEO of ACT
Helping people achieve education
and workplace success
For more than five decades, ACT’s staff members have vigorously
pursued our organization’s mission of “Helping people achieve
education and workplace success.” ACT Education Solutions,
Limited, (AES), a subsidiary founded in 2005, enables ACT to extend
the services we have developed over more than a half century to
individuals and organizations throughout the world.
AES is headquartered in Sydney, Australia. Our field offices in
Shanghai, Singapore, and Jakarta support our clients and partners
in their respective regions and develop new opportunities for
our organization. AES links universities with students ready for
matriculation and helps students prepare for university-level study
overseas.
AES concentrates its efforts on growing and supporting student and
institutional participation in the Global Assessment Certificate (GAC)
program and a suite of English Language Programs (ELP).
The GAC, taught and evaluated in English, helps students learning
English develop the skills they need to be admitted to and succeed
at colleges and universities that teach in English. Currently, the
GAC is taught at high schools, universities, and private colleges in
14 countries throughout the world. GAC students have gone on to
graduate from universities in the United States, the United Kingdom,
Australia, and Canada.
As one of the final steps in earning the GAC, students can elect to take
the ACT ® Test. This capstone test is universally recognized by colleges
and universities across the United States for assessing students’
readiness for college-level study and is also accepted by colleges and
universities around the world.
The ELP help people from non-English speaking backgrounds learn
to use English effectively in both general and academic contexts,
including the GAC program. The programs develop competence in
English language speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, and an
understanding of the cultures of English-speaking peoples.
At ACT, we are enthusiastic about the growth of our international

result of my going to America for
the first time and attending
university overseas. However, I was
able to adapt easily to university
because of the GAC program.
“For me, the speaking and writing
classes were very helpful. When I
first started the GAC program, I had
limited vocabulary, weak grammar
and no confidence in speaking.
But as I progressed in the program,
I was able to overcome these
problems. I received a lot of help
in writing during the GAC program.

The Global Assessment Certificate (GAC) program is a university
preparation program that provides
students with the academic
knowledge, skills, and confidence
to enter and successfully complete
a bachelors degree at one of many
selected universities. GAC graduates
can apply for admission to more
than 90 postsecondary institutions –
Pathway Universities – in the United
States, Canada, United Kingdom,
Australia, Singapore, Cambodia,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Thailand
and Vietnam. Some Pathway
Universities offer credit points for an
undergraduate degree, and a number
of them offer scholarships which can
significantly reduce tuition and living
expenses.
All students who complete the GAC
are eligible to take the ACT ® Test, a
multiple-choice test that covers four
areas of study: English, Mathematics,
Reading and Science, and an optional
test of Writing. This test is used
extensively by universities and
colleges in the USA to determine
undergraduate entry. The GAC is
the only international university
preparation program that includes
the ACT as part of its curriculum.

GAC graduates can apply for admission to more than 90

the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, Cambodia,
Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam.
The GAC consists of three levels
of study, and a fast track option is
available for students with additional
prior learning that can be recognized.
The core program consists of English,
Mathematics, Computing, Business,
Science and Social Science, supported
by a systematic study of learning skills
for success at university. Elective units
allow students to choose between
the International English Language
Testing System (IELTS ) and the
Test of English as a Foreign Language
(TOEFL ® ) preparation.
The GAC has been evaluated and
recognized as meeting university
admissions requirements by all GAC
Pathway Universities. For example,
recognition by the American Council
on Education (ACE) of the GAC
provides for up to 39 credit units of
advanced standing. This means that
a US university can grant up to two
semesters of credit for the GAC.*
There are few decisions in life as
important as the choice of university
for your bachelor degree. To help you
in this decision, we have provided this
handbook which presents a selection
of GAC Pathway Universities.
