6.4 Fauna Surveys 6.4.1 Habitat Descriptions of Fauna Sites Habitat description summaries and photos for each fauna site are included in Table 23 and site locations are mapped in Figure 41. Vegetation Description: Callitris intratropica over Heteropogon triticeus Landform: Slight Rise Soil: Sandy Loams Habitat Notes: Minor cattle impact, fire scars present but low impact, good level of fallen logs, low leaf litter, high canopy cover, not many flowering plants. Vegetation Description: Melaleuca viridiflora and Corymbia polycarpa over Chrysopogon fallax. Isolated Eucalyptus bella Landform: Flat Plain Soil: Deep Sandy Loam, some surface clay Habitat Notes: High cattle impact due to proximity to cattle stockyard, no hollows, Raptor nests (Sparrowhawk) in Eucalyptus bella, low termite mounds common. Site Photo Description Site 4 Site 5 Site 6 Site 7 Vegetation Description: Grevillea striata open woodland over grasses Chrysopogon fallax, with some minor groved areas of Diospyros humilis, Petalostigma banksii and Margaritaria dubium-traceyi Landform: Lowland Soil: Clay Habitat Notes: Narrow hollows present in dead beefwood (good for reptiles), isolated groved trees provided good shelter/shade, moderate level of leaf litter, termite mounds common. Vegetation Description: Eucalyptus bella with mixed Acacia species over C. fallax and Hyptis. Limited sign of vine-thicket community Landform: Chenier, old beach rise or sandy rise. Soil: Sand Habitat Notes: High weed impact (Hyptis, passion vine), high cattle impact, close to water (man-made dam), large Eucalyptus trees but no obvious hollows, low fire impact Vegetation Description: Patchy Monsoon Vine-thicket, with Eucalyptus bella Landform: Chenier, low shell dune adjacent to coast. Soil: Sand, with high shell content Habitat Notes: Dense veg with high leaf little load, especially in vine-thicket patches, many small hollows and fallen logs. Vegetation Description: Large Melaleuca viridiflora over Pseudoraphis spinescens. Some groved Melaleuca acacioides Landform: Freshwater Swamp Soil: Clay Habitat Notes: Permanent water, large hollows, flowering plants, high cattle impact, high weed impact on the swamp fringe (Parkinsonia).
