1) Horizontal-type Central Furnace - A furnace designed <strong>for</strong><br />

low headroom installations with air flow through the<br />

appliance in a horizontal path.<br />

2) Upflow-type Central Furnace - A furnace designed with<br />

air flow essentially in a vertical path, discharging air at or<br />

near the top of the furnace.<br />

3) Downflow-type Central Furnace - A furnace designed with<br />

air flow essentially in a vertical path, discharging air at or<br />

near the bottom of the furnace.<br />

4) Multi Position Furnace - A furnace designed to be installed<br />

upflow, downflow <strong>and</strong> horizontal.<br />

c. RECESSED FURNACE - A self-contained appliance complete<br />

with grilles or equivalent, designed <strong>for</strong> incorporation in or<br />

permanent attachment to a wall, floor, ceiling, or partition; either<br />

taking air <strong>for</strong> combustion from the space to be heated, or having<br />

a sealed combustion system the inlet <strong>and</strong> outlet of which<br />

communicates only with the outside air, <strong>and</strong> furnishing heated<br />

air circulated by gravity or by a fan directly into the space to be<br />

heated through openings in the casing.<br />

GAS HOSE - A gas conduit which depends <strong>for</strong> tightness on joint<br />

packing on any wall structure other than that <strong>for</strong>med by a continuous<br />

one-piece metal tubing member. Listed gas hose connectors shall<br />

be used in accordance with the terms of their listings.<br />

GAS PIPING - Any installation of pipe, valves or fittings used to<br />

convey fuel gas, installed on any premises or in any building, but<br />

shall not include:<br />

1) Any portion of the service piping.<br />

2) Any approved piping connection 6 feet (1.8 m) or less in<br />

length between an existing gas outlet <strong>and</strong> a gas appliance<br />

in the same room with the outlet.<br />
