NOTE: Underground piping shall not be covered or concealed<br />

until inspected by the Administrative Authority.<br />

11. CONCEALED PIPING, FITTINGS AND DEVICES: Unions,<br />

regulators, shut-off valves, flex connectors, gas hoses <strong>and</strong><br />

automatic valves shall not be concealed. Bushings shall not be<br />

utilized in the fuel line be<strong>for</strong>e the appliance shut-off valve.<br />

12. SHUT-OFF VALVES: Valves used in connection with gas<br />

piping shall be approved types. An accessible approved shutoff<br />

valve shall be installed in the fuel supply piping outside of<br />

each appliance <strong>and</strong> ahead of the union or connector within 6<br />

feet of the appliance <strong>and</strong> in the same room. In addition, appliance<br />

shutoff valves are now permitted to be located within 50 feet of<br />

the appliance on a remote manifold such as used with a CSST<br />

parallel piping system.<br />

EXCEPTION: When approved by the authority having<br />

jurisdiction, shut-off valves <strong>for</strong> listed, vented decorative<br />

appliances may be accessibly located in an area remote from<br />

the appliance. Such valve shall be permanently identified <strong>and</strong><br />

shall serve no other equipment.<br />

An approved shut-off valve shall be installed upstream of the<br />

MP regulator.<br />

Shut-off valves shall be located to provide <strong>for</strong> ready access of<br />

operation <strong>and</strong> installed in a location where it will not be damaged.<br />

Installation of valves under appliances, such as wall heaters<br />

<strong>and</strong> fireplaces, should be installed in such a manner where the<br />

appliance can be removed without removal of the valve. Valves<br />

are prohibited in concealed locations <strong>and</strong> furnace plenums.<br />
