4. PIPING PLAN: It is recommended be<strong>for</strong>e proceeding with the<br />
installation of a gas piping system a piping sketch or plan be<br />
prepared showing the proposed location of the piping as well<br />
as the pipe size of different branches. Adequate consideration<br />
should be given to future dem<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> provisions made <strong>for</strong><br />
added gas service. If a piping plan is provided, <strong>Questar</strong> <strong>Gas</strong><br />
Company will be glad to review it without charge or obligation.<br />
5. GAS PIPING MATERIALS: These recommendations apply to<br />
all gas piping run on the customer’s side of the meter. Since gas<br />
piping will <strong>for</strong>m a permanent part of the building, inside <strong>and</strong><br />
above ground piping shall be st<strong>and</strong>ard weight iron or steel<br />
(galvanized or black), malleable iron fittings <strong>and</strong> approved shutoff<br />
valves or corrugated stainless steel tubing system. For ferrous<br />
gas piping underground installation see Page 32.<br />
Copper pipe or tubing shall not be installed in any piping <strong>for</strong><br />
gas.<br />
6. PLASTIC PIPING MATERIAL: Plastic polyethylene pipe<br />
materials <strong>and</strong> compression couplings must be approved <strong>for</strong><br />
natural gas applications <strong>and</strong> must be installed underground.<br />
All plastic pipe <strong>and</strong> fittings must con<strong>for</strong>m to ASTM D2513 ( 60<br />
psi <strong>and</strong> above high density pipe approved 3408).<br />
Plastic pipe must be joined by individuals qualified in the heat<br />
fusion method of connecting pipe <strong>and</strong> fittings or approved<br />
mechanical fittings. A minimum number 18 insulated yellow<br />
copper tracer wire shall be installed with underground nonmetallic<br />
gas piping <strong>and</strong> shall terminate above grade at each end.<br />
Tracer wire shall not come in contact with plastic piping.<br />
Risers <strong>and</strong> prefabricated risers inserted with plastic pipe shall<br />
con<strong>for</strong>m to ASTM D2513, shall be metallic, have a space of 10<br />
inches from the bottom of the service valve <strong>and</strong> grade, <strong>and</strong><br />
shall be wrapped or coated to a point at least 6 inches above<br />
grade or protected in an approved manner. When a riser<br />
