The citations read as ~llllows: 1. Company E, 1st Plotoon,.Comgany H, and 1st Platoon, Company C, 307th Infantry Regiment, are cited for outstanding performance of duty in action against the enemy. At 0415. 17 May 1945, near Shuri, Okinawa, Hyukyua Islands, Cornpanu 9, with the 1st Platoon, Company R, and 1st Platoon, Com- pany 0 attached, launched a night attack on Ishimmi Ridge, a strongly defended terrain feature commanding u 2,WO-yard valley and a key position in the Shurl defense line. The ridge, 600 yards to the front, was vitally impartant to the off?nsive and had to be captured hefore further advances could be made.
