The fields below <strong>the</strong> road all look too fertilised to be of interest. Even small fields within <strong>the</strong> bog had received fertiliser<br />

and had no interest. Above <strong>the</strong> road, <strong>the</strong> open moor starts and grassland is of patchy occurrence mainly around <strong>the</strong><br />

old watchtower and along <strong>the</strong> cliff edges. The higher we ascended, <strong>the</strong> more acidic <strong>the</strong> soils were and interest soon<br />

petered out past <strong>the</strong> watchtower.<br />

Hygrocybe pratensis and H.virginea were also recorded from here on a previous visit.<br />

Grassland and dune edge at western end of Fermoyle Strand. The fields are very heavily grazed and are unlikely to<br />

be good for waxcaps although I would expect at least a few species.<br />
