Walter J. Cogan<br />

Walter J. Cogan, 72, died<br />

unexpectedly Monday, February 1,<br />

1993 at Sand Lake Hospital in<br />

Orlando, Fla. He was the husband of<br />

Virginia M. (McCarthy) Cogan.<br />

Bom in Lowell April 20,1920, he<br />

was the son of the late Edmund and<br />

the late Bridget (0"Reagon) Cogan,<br />

but had been a lifelong resident of<br />

Tewksbury.<br />

During World War II, he served<br />

in the Navy.<br />

He worked as a mechanic for 37<br />

years, employed by the Brake and<br />

Electric Sales Corp in Medford,<br />

retiring in 1982.<br />

He was a communicant of St.<br />

William's Church, a member of the<br />

Tewksbury-<strong>Wilmington</strong> Elks, and a<br />

member of the Tewksbury Golden<br />

Age Club.<br />

In addition to his wife, he is<br />

survived by two daughters, Mrs.<br />

Michael (Margaret Mary, Peggy)<br />

Travers of Bradford and Mrs.<br />

Dennis (Arleen) MacCallum of<br />

Wilton, N.H.; two sons and<br />

daughters-in-law, Richard and<br />

Robin Cogan of Idaho and W.<br />

Joseph and Michelle Cogan of<br />

Tewksbury; two brothers, Edward<br />

Cogan of Conn., and Phillip Cogan<br />

of Tewksbury; one sister, Mary<br />

Thornton of Norwood and seven<br />

grandchildren, Todd and Damon<br />

Silva, Derek Femandes, Dennis and<br />

Daniel MacCallum, and Patrick and<br />

Timothy Cogan.<br />

He was also the brother of the late<br />

Helen O'Brien.<br />

Funeral services were held Friday<br />

from the Tewksbury Funeral Home<br />

followed by a funeral mass at St.<br />

William's Church and interment in<br />

St. Mary's Cemetery.<br />

John E. Cefalo<br />

John E. Cefalo, 55, a well known<br />

and respected businessman in the<br />

Tewksbury community died<br />

Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1993 at Saints<br />

<strong>Memorial</strong> Medical Center, St.<br />

John's Campus. He was the husband<br />

of Sally E. (Austin) Cefalo.<br />

Bom in Boston February 8,1937.<br />

he was the son of Carmen and<br />

Clotilda (Lombardi) Cefalo of<br />

Stoneham and was raised in<br />

Medford, graduating from Medford<br />

High school. He was a resident of<br />

Tewksbury since 1965.<br />

Mr. Cefalo served in the army<br />

during the Korean Conflict.<br />

He was the former owner of<br />

John's Texaco at Main and<br />

Shawsheen Streets from 1965 to<br />

1985 and became an auto dealer. In<br />

1985 he purchased Mini-Car Center<br />

of Tewksbury and since 1989, has<br />

held the Tewksbury franchise of<br />

Rent-a-Wreck on Shawsheen Street.<br />

He served as president of the<br />

Tewksbury Rotary Club in<br />

1975-76, and was a club member<br />

since 1971.<br />

Beside his wife and parents, he is<br />

survived by three sons, Lawrence<br />

"Larry" Arlcn of East Hampstead,<br />

N.H., Mark Cefalo of Methuen and<br />

Glen Cefalo of Brcwster; one<br />

daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne<br />

R. and David A. Johnson of Salem;<br />

one daughter-in-law, Jacqueline<br />

(Oscroft) Arlen of N.H.; one<br />

brother, Robert Cefalo, M.D. of<br />

North Carolina and three<br />

grandchildren, Lawrence Arlen Jr.,<br />

Michelle and Chelsea Johnson.<br />

A funeral mass was celebrated<br />

Saturday at St. William's. Burial<br />

followed in Tewksbury Cemetery.<br />

<strong>Memorial</strong> contributions to the<br />

Tewksbury Fire Department, Town<br />

Hall Ave., Tewksbury, MA 01876<br />

will be appreciated.<br />

direction of the Tewksbury Funeral<br />

Elsa Bishop<br />

Elsa (Hcneka) Bishop, 71, of<br />

<strong>Wilmington</strong> died Monday,<br />

February 8, 1993 at Winchester<br />

Hospital. She was the widow* of<br />

Harold L. Bishop.<br />

Bom in Germany, the daughter of<br />

the late Gregor and the late Anna<br />

(Gentner)" Hencka, she lived in<br />

<strong>Wilmington</strong>, for 45 years and prior<br />

to retirement' was employed as a<br />

senior technician at G.T.E. labs in<br />

Waltham.<br />

Mrs. Bishop is survived by her<br />

daughter and son-in-law, Joseph<br />

"Dick" and Doris Thibodeau; her<br />

two grandchildren, Heidi<br />

Thibodeau of Billerica and Michael<br />

Thibodeau of Derry, N.H.; two<br />

brothers, Ewald Hencka and Albert<br />

Heneka and her sister, Sofie Hugel,<br />

all of Durlach, Germany.<br />

Her funeral was held from the<br />

W.S. Cavanaugh & Son Funeral<br />

Home Wednesday morning with the<br />

Rev. Ronald Grimley of the First<br />

Baptist Church officiating. Inter-<br />

ment followed in the family lot,<br />

Wildwood Cemetery.<br />

died unexpectedly Monday<br />

afternoon, February 8, 1993 at<br />

Saints <strong>Memorial</strong> Medical Center, St.<br />

John's Campus. He was 52 and the<br />

husband of Elaine (Norton)<br />

Doherty.<br />

Born and raised in Somervillc, he<br />

was the son of the late Stephen and<br />

Margaret (Blake) Doherty and lived<br />

in Tewksbury for the past 25 years.<br />

A graduate of Somervillc High<br />

School and Northeastern University<br />

he was employed in the commercial<br />

loan section of the Bank of Boston<br />

and was an Army veteran.<br />

A communicant of St. William's<br />

Church. In addition to his wife, he<br />

is survived by two sons, James E.<br />

Doherty Jr. and Michael Doherty<br />

both of Tewksbury; one daughter,<br />

Mrs. John (Susan) Fisher of Lowell;<br />

three brothers, Stephen Doherty of<br />

Maryland, William Doherty of<br />

Tewksbury and Francis Doherty of<br />

Billerica; three sisters, Mary Shanks<br />

of Tenn., Margaret McCulloch of<br />

Gasper J. Cappello, 58, died<br />

unexpectedly Saturday evening,<br />

Feb. 6,1993 at Winchester Hospital.<br />

He was the husband of Pauline<br />

(DeMorc) Cappello.<br />

Born in East Boston, he was the<br />

son of the late William and Helen<br />

(Abondanza) Cappello and was<br />

raised in Medford. He was a<br />

Tewksbury resident for the past 25<br />

years.<br />

A self employed contractor, he<br />

owned the Amcribuild Company in<br />

Tewksbury. and was a veteran of the<br />

Korean Conflict having served<br />

aboard the U.S.S. Albany, Ship 123.<br />

He was a communicant of St.<br />

Dorothy's Church in <strong>Wilmington</strong>.<br />

Beside his wife, he is survived by<br />

three sons, Bernard J. McGovern of<br />

Belmoni, William R. Cappello or<br />

Dennis and Joseph Cappello of<br />

Tewksbury; one daughter, Gaylc H.<br />

Cappello of Tewksbury; one<br />

daughter-in-law, Stephanie (Wat-<br />

mough) Cappello of Dennis; one<br />

brother, Gerard Cappello of<br />

Winchester and two grandchildren,<br />

Thomas M. Cunniff, 76, of<br />

Nashua, N.H., a former resident of<br />

Tewksbury, died unexpectedly<br />

Sunday, January 31, 1993 at the<br />

Bardo <strong>Memorial</strong> Hospital in<br />

Wauchula, Fla. He was the husband<br />

of Anna L. (Downey) Cunniff.<br />

He was born May 21, 1916 in<br />

Boston, the son of the late John H.<br />

and Hildagard (Walles) Cunniff. He<br />

was raised in Charlestown, and<br />

lived in Tewksbury, later dividing<br />

the year between Florida and<br />

Nashua.<br />

He was employed by the Quincy<br />

Market Cold Storage Company in<br />

Boston until his retirement in 1980.<br />

While in Tewksbury, he was a<br />

communicant of St. William's<br />

Church and was an active member<br />

of Ihe Fr. Coppins Council of the<br />

Knights of Columbus in<br />

Tewksbury.<br />

In addition to his wife, Mr.<br />

Cunniff is survived by four sons,<br />

Thomas M. Cunniff, Jr. of Lowell,<br />

Sgt. John H. Cunniff, U.S. Army,<br />

stationed in N.J., Stephen Cunniff of<br />

Nashua and Paul R. Cunniff of<br />

Billerica; two daughters, Sheila<br />

Cunniff of Nashua, Mrs. John<br />

(Mary) Squires of Nashua; two<br />

daughters-in-law, Judith (Carlton)<br />

Cunniff of Lowell and Sheila<br />

(Wright) Cunniff of Billerica; one<br />

sister, Mrs. Mary Anagnos of<br />

Somervillc; one sister-in-law,<br />

Phyllis (Dox) Cunniff of Maryland;<br />
