Rare Earth elements (REE) have<br />

very distinctive signatures in the<br />

<strong>vis</strong>ible region as can be seen in<br />

Figure 5. Rare Earth minerals<br />

include such species as bastnesite<br />

(CeFCO 3 ), monzonite (Ce, La,Y,Th)<br />

PO 4 , and xenotime (YPO 4 ). The<br />

two most famous REE mines in the<br />

world are located at Mountain Pass,<br />

California and Bayan Obo, China.<br />
