22 Men&RelationshipsProgram TheMen&RelationshipsProgram(MARP)receivesfederalfundingfromtheDepartmentofFamilies, Housing,CommunityServices&IndigenousAffairs(FaHCSIA).MARPcommencedin1999at1Isabel Streetwhereitislocatedtoday. HistoricallyMARPhasworkedwithmenandtheirfamiliestostrengthenthewellbeing,safetyand resilienceofmen,theirfamilies,andtheircommunities.ThestaffatMARPareawareoftheneedto beflexibletocaterfortheeverchangingneedsofmenwhoareaccessingtheservicesparticularly forthosewhoaremandatedtoattend,egbytheDepartmentsofCorrectionsorChildSafetyto haveawelcoming,relaxedspacewheretheyfeelcomfortable. KeyDevelopments Thefocusofthepast12monthshasbeenonprovidinggroupwork,counsellingandschoolbased support.Tocaterfordemand,counsellingappointmentshavebeenavailableinbusinesshoursas wellasduringtheevening.Thedemandfortheseappointmentshasremainedconstant. TheOutrage(angermanagement)groupandDad'sTalk(parenting)havebothbeenwellattended groups.The facilitators who have presented these groups are Luke Tanks, Ian Titmarsh, Wayne MartinandPeterDodd. MARPhasbeenfortunatetohavehadtheassistanceofseveralstudentsoverthepast12months whohaveworkedasstudentcounsellors,cofacilitatedtheCognitiveSkillsandtheOutragegroup and with the delivery of adolescent based school programs for boys around such topics as relationships,conflictandbullying.Wewouldliketothankthesestudentsfortheirskillandservice tothisworkduringtheirplacements: - GaryJames - JeanSmith - LoganHarvey - andTamaraYork Theprogramhasbenefitedenormouslyfromtheircontributions. Trends TheMen&RelationshipsProgramisfacingthechallengeofcontinuingtoprovideamuchneeded service with a limited amount of funding into the next financial year.Referrals and requests for servicesarebeingreceivedfromgovernmentdepartments,communityorganisationsandschoolsas servicesconcentratingonmalesarenotcommoninthecommunity. Steven Mayers TeamLeader,MenandRelationshipsProgram OrganisationalDevelopment InFebruary2011afourth,projectbasedExecutiveManagementTeamrolecameintobeingthe Manager,OrganisationalDevelopment.ThisroleevolvedfromthepreviousHRproject,toaugment the work that had been done to date in terms of strengthened Governance, Strategic Planning, Quality(QualityAssurance)initiatives.Ithasincluded:
Embedding the Board Charter, developed in the second half of 2010, to provide clearer accountabilities,delegationsofauthorityandcommunicationchannelsfromtheBoardlevel down. This included restructuring the Board Committees, streamlining these down in number,anddevelopingappropriateTermsofReferenceforeachinturn. AflowonoftheBoardCharterprincipleshasincludedthedevelopmentofadditionalTermsof Reference documents for Lifeline Darling Downs & South West Queensland Limited's key meetings at the Executive Management Team and Team Leader (now Management Team) level. Other governance related work has included input into the various iterations of the Memorandum of Understanding with LCCQ, working closely with the CEO as the historic transferofpropertytitlesfromtheChurchtoLifelineDarlingDownhasapproached. TherehasbeensignificantinputintoPolicy&Proceduredocumentsacrossvariousoperational areasoftheCompany.AtthetimeofwritingaQualityManagementSystem(QMS)hasbeen draftedtoapproximately80%completion.WiththeimplementationoftheHumanServices DivisionrestructureinJuly2011,thereareplanstofinalisethisdocumentandtouseitasa cornerstoneinQuality,GovernanceandInformationManagementsystems. AsamemberoftheExecutiveManagementTeam,theManagerOrganisationalDevelopment hadsomesignificant,ifbehindthescenes,inputintotheHumanServicesDivisionrestructure. It has been a great opportunity to be part of shaping a best practice service delivery and managementmodel. The five (5) months have been busy, challenging, rewarding and at times inspiring.It has been wonderfultoseesomeoftheinfrastructurecometogether,supportingthisgreat,communitybased organisation as it provides to clients and continues to support staff and volunteers in their work. MuchofthisworkwillprovideaplatformforcontinuedgrowthasLifelineDarlingDownscontinues to expand its geographical footprint and variety of programs and services throughout the South WestQueenslandregion. Oneofthekeyhighlightshasbeentheopportunitytoworkwithmanyhighlyskilledanddedicated people including the EMT members, the Board, various Working Parties, Business Division & CorporateServices.Willingnesstoprovideinput,contributeandsharetheoccasionalcoffeehave mademyjobthatmucheasier&apleasure.Whilemuchhasbeenachievedinarelativelyshort time,itappearstrulythatthebestisyettocome. Helen Montgomery Manager,OrganisationalDevelopment ParentalandCommunityEngagement(PaCE) The Parental and Community Engagement Program (PaCE) aims to enhance the capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and Communities. This project aims to enable parents/caregivers of Indigenous students and the Indigenous community members to come togethertodevelopskillstosupporttheirchildren.Italsoaimstoincreaseparentparticipationand understandingofeducationaldecisionmaking.
