TheMen&RelationshipsProgram(MARP)receivesfederalfundingfromtheDepartmentofFamilies,<br />
Housing,CommunityServices&IndigenousAffairs(FaHCSIA).MARPcommencedin1999at1Isabel<br />
Streetwhereitislocatedtoday.<br />
<br />
HistoricallyMARPhasworkedwithmenandtheirfamiliestostrengthenthewellbeing,safetyand<br />
resilienceofmen,theirfamilies,andtheircommunities.ThestaffatMARPareawareoftheneedto<br />
beflexibletocaterfortheeverchangingneedsofmenwhoareaccessingtheservicesparticularly<br />
forthosewhoaremandatedtoattend,egbytheDepartmentsofCorrectionsorChildSafetyto<br />
haveawelcoming,relaxedspacewheretheyfeelcomfortable.<br />
KeyDevelopments<br />
Thefocusofthepast12monthshasbeenonprovidinggroupwork,counsellingandschoolbased<br />
support.Tocaterfordemand,counsellingappointmentshavebeenavailableinbusinesshoursas<br />
wellasduringtheevening.Thedemandfortheseappointmentshasremainedconstant.<br />
<br />
TheOutrage(angermanagement)groupandDad'sTalk(parenting)havebothbeenwellattended<br />
groups.The facilitators who have presented these groups are Luke Tanks, Ian Titmarsh, Wayne<br />
MartinandPeterDodd.<br />
<br />
MARPhasbeenfortunatetohavehadtheassistanceofseveralstudentsoverthepast12months<br />
whohaveworkedasstudentcounsellors,cofacilitatedtheCognitiveSkillsandtheOutragegroup<br />
and with the delivery of adolescent based school programs for boys around such topics as<br />
relationships,conflictandbullying.Wewouldliketothankthesestudentsfortheirskillandservice<br />
tothisworkduringtheirplacements:<br />

Trends<br />
TheMen&RelationshipsProgramisfacingthechallengeofcontinuingtoprovideamuchneeded<br />
service with a limited amount of funding into the next financial year.Referrals and requests for<br />
servicesarebeingreceivedfromgovernmentdepartments,communityorganisationsandschoolsas<br />
servicesconcentratingonmalesarenotcommoninthecommunity.<br />
