44 ProgramDelivery The program is based in the SWQ regional town of Charleville and services Charleville and the surrounding districts of Cunnamulla, Tambo and Quilpie. This service is specified to service CharlevilleStateHighSchool,CharlevilleSchoolofDistantEducation,TamboStateSchool,Quilpie StateCollege,andCunnamullaStateHighSchool. Theserviceistargetedatyoungpeopleaged14to17yearswhoarenewlydisengagedorareatrisk of disengagement from education or training, or not transitioning to work including (but not confinedto)youngpeoplewho: Arenewlydisengagedfromeducationortraining Areatriskofdisengagingfromeducationortraining Areatriskofnotmakingatransitiontofurthereducation,trainingoremployment Aresubjecttoapatternofsuspension Havebeenorareatriskofbeingexcluded Havehadenrolmentinthecompulsoryparticipationphasecancelled Havearecordoftruancy. Todate,41individualshavereceivedvaryingdegreesofservicefromtheYSC.Additionally,anumber ofgroupworksandcommunitydevelopmenteventshavebeencompletedthrougheachdifferent schoolandcommunity. ThebiggestdevelopmentfortheYSCItodatehasbeenthechangesmadetotheYSCIasof1 st July 2011.ThishasdirectlyaffectedourYSCprogrambyincludingCunnamullaintotheservicearea.

ProgramChallengestodate Geographicaldistancestravelledtoengagewithparticipants. Lackofyouthaccommodationforyoungpeoplethatrequireappropriateaccommodation. Additionofnewserviceareaandtheconcernofhowthisareawillbeservicedconsideringthe highworkloadalreadypresent. Lackofyouthworkerstosupportwithgroupandcommunityactivities. Trends Thesuccessofthisprogramhasbeenaresultofsuccessfulcollaboratingandnetworkingbetween school staff, students and the relevant local communities. It also requires an individual who is supportedbyanencouragingteamwhocanbeadaptive,flexible,considerateandempathetictothe vastdifferencesineachcommunityonewillservice. Many aspects of this program will look different in the future compared to the past 18 months consideringtheinclusionoftheCunnamullacommunitysoitishardtoanticipatehowtheservice willevolvenow.However,itisarequirementthatmoreindividualcontactwillbecompletedanda lesserfocusongroupandcommunityactivities. Theinitiativeisapositiveoptionforyoungpeopleandwhilstapreventativeframeworkiscontinued manyyoungpeoplecanbesupportedandhaveskillsdevelopedtohelptopreventdisengagement fromtheirlearning. Administration MadonnacontinuestobethecofacilitatoroftheCharlevilleWomen'sFocusGroupandthisyearwe were lucky enough to receive funding from the Department of Communities for NAIDOC and we heldamorningonHealingThroughArtwhichtheladiesfoundveryfulfilling.Wecontinuetohave regularcraftdaysandtheyhavebeenmakingAboriginalprinthandbagsandsellingthemandare lookingforwardingtohavingastallatthesunsetmarketsinOctobersothemoneycangotowardsa trip to Toowoomba in December.Other activities include guest speakers, pamper days, visiting HealthyAgeingandlotofgroupdiscussionshappenaroundgriefandloss,financesandfamily. OthercommunityactivitiesthatwehaveparticipatedinandhadaLifelinedisplayatwereNAIDOC FamilyFishingandFunDay,DVNoTouchUpTouchCarnival,InternationalWomen'sDayandatthe PinkRibbonDayinWyandra. We are still represented on the WORK Committee and Madonna is the secretary at present. Madonna also represents Lifeline at the local and district Community Recovery level and will be attendingtraininginOctobertobeapartoftheresponseteam. Our community involvement is an important part of a rural community and we continue to participateintheseactivitiesasawaytoremindthecommunityaboutthegreatworkLifelinecan anddoesdeliver. 45
