Race 11 Selections by K.B.M. THE HORSEPLAYERS JOURNAL
2 FIRST IMPRESSION was hauled to the back of the field by driver Scott Zeron when sent off as the odds-on favourite two starts ago and that
performance turned out to be a complete debacle. Trainer Rene Allard recruited Jody Jamieson to drive the pacer in last week’s performance, and
after putting pacer on the lead he was able to dictate the tempo en route to getting the job done in 1:54.2. The gelding can double up in this spot.
1 PACIFIC WARRIOR was claimed for $8,000 on Apr. 4 and he came back a winner against $10,000 rivals in his debut for trainer Gerard Demers.
The son of Astreos has been on a serious roll as of late thanks to the three wins and the pair of second-place finishes he’s put together in his last six
outings. The 22-time winner moves up to a tougher class level tonight, but he certainly doesn’t look out of place. He’s an Exactor factor in here.
8 SILVER DRAGON has hit the board in each of his last four assignments for trainer Kevin McMaster, who has to be pleased with the pacer’s
productivity in recent weeks. The gelding, who could still use some beefing up in the win column, was a solid second to my top selection in last
week’s tilt. Look for him to be forwardly-placed once again. He has the overall speed needed to be a top three threat once again.
6 DUKE DID IT finished up the month of March with back-to-back wins at Woodbine, but he’s been forced to settle for small shares in his last two
outings for trainer Des Tackoor. The gelding was too far back and the trip was far too difficult for him to be a big threat last time. If he can avoid
getting away ninth at the quarter pole and/or being parked every step of the mile he can be a serious contender.
(3) SHIFTIN GEARTOGEAR hasn’t had any luck since returning from some down time. The gelding was a disappointing eighth versus $15,000
foes in his return race, and he was a non-factor tenth against $12,000 rivals in last week’s follow-up performance. He’s hard to recommend.
(4) AMBLE OVER HANOVER went home empty handed in his first four starts of the season against conditioned foes, and that’s prompted trainer
Scott Habbershaw to reclassify the struggling son of Modern Art. The move to the claiming ranks gives him a license to improve.
(5) PUTNAMS ATTACK was a narrowly-beaten runner-up versus $10,000 claimers in his Apr. 1 debut for owner/trainer Duncan Brewer, but he
wasn’t much of a factor in his last two attempts against tougher company. He drops in for a $12,000 price tag tonight. He can grab a share.
(7) SIX GUN has been first or second in nearly half of his starts this season, but he’s been shutout since joining forces with trainer Jason Ryan. The
gelding lacked staying power against Flamboro Downs foes in his latest, and things probably won’t get any easier for him in this spot.
