3.3.9 SIDNEY<br />
Norgate and Bentote (2005) reported on a study carried out in Hampshire schools in<br />
which children were screened <strong>for</strong> dyslexia at the end of Year 1 using either DEST<br />
(<strong>Dyslexia</strong> Early Screening Test; Nicolson & Fawcett, 1996) or Lucid CoPS (Cognitive<br />
Profiling System; Singleton, Thomas and Leedale, 1996). Children who screened positive<br />
(N=66) then worked individually through a daily intervention programme delivered by<br />
trained teaching assistants <strong>for</strong> 15 minutes per day over 12 weeks. <strong>The</strong> intervention<br />
programme (called ‘Screening and <strong>Intervention</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Dyslexia</strong>, Notably in the Early Years’,<br />
with the acronym SIDNEY) was multisensory and phonological in overall approach,<br />
focusing on letter-sound linkages, blending, and phonological awareness training. Pre-<br />
