The classes in the College Department have continued their praiseworthy<br />
custom <strong>of</strong> presenting books to the Library on occasion <strong>of</strong><br />
their graduation, <strong>and</strong> have given as follows: The Class <strong>of</strong> 1888, 1<br />
volume (additional to those already reported); the Class <strong>of</strong> <strong>1890</strong>, 34<br />
volumes; the Class <strong>of</strong> 1891, 21 volumes; <strong>and</strong> the Class <strong>of</strong> 18<strong>92</strong>, 25<br />
volumes.<br />
There have been added to the Krauth Library <strong>of</strong> Philosophy 16<br />
volumes, to the B. B. Comegys, Jr., Library <strong>of</strong> Philosophy, 55 volumes,<br />
<strong>and</strong> to the Henry Seybert Library <strong>of</strong> Modern Spiritualism 107<br />
bound volumes <strong>and</strong> 57 pamphlets.<br />
The Tobias Wagner Library has been increased 611 volumes.<br />
The George Biddle Memorial Law Library has received accessions<br />
to the'number <strong>of</strong> 3116 volumes, <strong>and</strong> contains at present 8418 books.<br />
Conspicuous among the many gifts to the Library is the large <strong>and</strong><br />
valuable collection <strong>of</strong> books on Geology, Palaeontology <strong>and</strong> Natural<br />
History, which belonged to Dr. Joseph Leidy, presented by Mrs.<br />
Leidy.<br />
Mrs. Charles A. Ashburner presented the geological library <strong>of</strong> her<br />
husb<strong>and</strong>, numbering 656 bound volumes, 867 unbound pamphlets <strong>and</strong><br />
periodicals, <strong>and</strong> no maps.<br />
Mr. Francis Campbell Macauley gave 221 volumes, chiefly French,<br />
Spanish, <strong>and</strong> Italian literature.<br />
Mr. Brinton Coxe contributed 25 volumes <strong>of</strong> Sacrse Rotae Romanae<br />
Decisiones, <strong>and</strong> other works <strong>of</strong> Canon Law.<br />
The Rev. Frederic M. Bird presented the original manuscripts<br />
<strong>of</strong> his father's, Dr. Robert Montgomery Bird's, novels, " Nick <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Woods," " Calavar," <strong>and</strong> " Hawks <strong>of</strong> Hawk Hollow,"<strong>and</strong> a portion<br />
<strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong> " Robin Day," as well as Dr. Bird's medical lectures.<br />
The Rev. Dr. William H. Furness gave 44 volumes on Slavery.<br />
From Mr. Richard Henry Bayard Bowie we received 229 volumes <strong>of</strong><br />
Chinese literature, <strong>and</strong> 194 books on other subjects, from the fine<br />
library <strong>of</strong> his father, the late Richard Ashhurst Bowie.<br />
From Mrs. Horace Binney Hare, 274 bound volumes <strong>and</strong> 130<br />
unbound volumes <strong>and</strong> pamphlets, chiefly medical <strong>and</strong> chemical.<br />
From Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Alfred Stille, M.D., 371 bound volumes, <strong>and</strong> 118<br />
unbound volumes <strong>and</strong> pamphlets, medical <strong>and</strong> miscellaneous.<br />
From the family <strong>of</strong> Major-General George Gordon Meade, 325<br />
bound <strong>and</strong> 232 unbound.miscellaneous books.<br />
