ciating the profound learning, masterly logic,
and fervid eloquence of those great Puritan
preachers who moulded public opinion, and
thus became the authors and originators of
much that is deemed most valuable in our
political institutions.

the work done by Mr. Whiting during a
period of fifty-nine years (i62o-i679), under
