2. Or the opposite effect of desensitising the viewer and sending negative
messages of apathy and a grim future. This effect weakens the ambitions of
the viewer to be part of the paradigm shifts and social changes that will be
necessary to counteract these ills and other ills portrayed though horror art.
An even worse effect in this regard is when the art itself serves almost to
perpetuate or romanticise the horror. On this argument Sontag also offers
some insight:
