Race 11 Selections by K.B.M. THE HORSEPLAYERS JOURNAL
6 MY GAL MATTIE was hustled to the lead in her latest outing, and after doing all of the road work she came to a walk in the lane and wound up
settling for a fifth-place finish. The daughter of Tulane gets some additional class relief to work with tonight for trainer Peter Core, who would love to
get her into the winner’s circle for the third time this year. The mare is overdue for a victory, and my money says she’ll get one tonight.
8 ROCA REI threw in a clunker of an effort on Apr. 16 in London, but prior to that effort and following that mile she produced victories for trainer
Richard Moreau. At the time of writing, his barn was 15-for-62 (24%) this month at Woodbine and his starters had hit the board in 37 of those 62
starts (60%). She really looked solid in her most recent outing, and that’s a big part of the reason why I’ve given her major consideration tonight.
4 ARDOR LOCKE turned in an eye-catching effort on Apr. 12 when she passed six foes in the final quarter of that contest en route to finishing a
bang-up third. Her form was pretty poor prior to that mile, and it was poor in last week’s follow-up effort. She had a tough post last time and it led to
a very challenging trip, and that’s why I’m willing to cut her some slack and give her another shot to redeem herself. She’s a top three threat.
5 LETS GO GET EM has nabbed small shares in two of her last three assignments for trainer Steve Nichols, who will be on the lookout for a similar
performance in here. The mare gets an ideal post to work from as she tries to find her way to the winner’s circle for the first time this season. She
rallied well to finish fourth in her most recent effort, and hopefully she can come up with a similar off-the-pace performance in here.
(1) SAM SWIFTY appeared to be making some headway between late March and early April, but she’s regressed since then for trainer Martin
Lachance. Back-to-back poor showings eliminate her from my list of contenders in this wide-open affair.
(2) WHIPPEROSA has raced at this level in each of her last three starts, and she’s failed to hit the board on all three occasions. She totes an 0-for-
11 seasonal record into this assignment, and based on her form it’s probably safe to say she’s going home 0-for-12. Not much to like about her.
(3) XENIA HANOVER has finished no better than eighth in each of her last three starts at Woodbine, and I see no reason to believe why things
would get any better this time around for the daughter of The Panderosa. She’s missed a bit of time while battling with apparent sickness, too.
(7) DEVIN PULSE is two starts into a comeback, and judging by her latest effort it appears as though she’s headed in the right direction. The mare
came first-over in that contest and wound up finishing a respectable fourth. She takes on tougher foes tonight, however. She can grab a share.
(9) HIGHLAND CANDY BAR went winless in last year’s 15-start campaign for former trainer Garrett Whelan, and after missing nearly a full year of
racing the mare has resurfaced for new trainer Marty Fine. She qualified in good order on Apr. 18. She could be a sleeper in this group.
(10) BOAT HOUSE ROW hasn’t had much luck since returning from the shelf for trainer Rene Laarman. She went through the motions and finished
eighth in her first start back, and after getting interfered with last week she finished eighth once again. Post 10 is a killer.
