Race 12 Selections by K.B.M. THE HORSEPLAYERS JOURNAL
3 JERSEY JOE recently returned from a lengthy layoff, and upon returning he was a winner versus $6,000 conditioned claimers at Flamboro Downs
for trainer Dave Tyrrell. The son of Matts Scooter went to the front in that effort and didn’t look back en route to stopping the teletimer in 1:57.1 over
a track rated ‘good’ with a one-second allowance for time. I’ll give the gelding a slight edge even though he’s up in class in his quest to repeat.
7 KEYED ENTRY had a rugged trip in his debut for trainer Duncan Brewer, but he still managed to grab a slice of the pie. He got away poorly in last
week’s follow-up performance, but he came on strong at the end of the mile and took home a third-place cheque as a result. The gelding paced his
mile in 1:53.4 that night, and if he can duplicate that speed in here he should be able to make his presence felt.
8 LOST IN PANSLATION didn’t look too sporty when he post paraded in his latest outing, be that didn’t stop him from rallying to a third-place finish
for trainer Richard Moreau. The 27-time winner drops to the bottom claiming level offered on the circuit as he tries to find his way to victory lane for
the third time this year. He’d missed nearly a month of racing going into his latest performance. He’ll get his fair share of betting support tonight.
2 AMERICAN CAPTAIN has struggled with consistency in recent weeks, but when he puts his mind to it he can be a contender. The son of
American Ideal had a tough post to overcome last time, and I can understand why he only managed to grab a small share. He was a determined
runner-up two starts ago after doing the first-over road work. He has enough early speed to make his own luck in here. He merits consideration.
THE FOLLOWING LISTED IN POST POSITION ORDER
(1) STIR AND SERVE was treated to a perfect trip in the two-hole last time and the gelding managed to convert it into a 1:57.4 tally. The son of
Armbro Trench moves to the big track tonight in his quest to double up. He’ll have to fine-tune his speed in order to be competitive.
(4) LITTLE QUICK has gone through some struggles in recent weeks considering he hasn’t hit the board in his last six attempts. The gelding
returns to the big oval tonight as he desperately tries to regroup. He’s hard to recommend in here based on his current form.
(5) GENTLEMAN FRIEND debuts for trainer Mark Herlihy after making a break and finishing up the track in his latest outing for former trainer Blake
MacIntosh. The gelding missed a start on Apr. 14, and that means he’s missed nearly a month of racing since his last start. I’ll take a pass.
(6) MACH MY WORD has not been overly productive in recent races. He can wait for another night when we might have an improved result to
consider.
(9) NJS TRICK PISTOL was an impressive runner-up two starts ago for trainer Shawn Robinson, but he took two steps back in last week’s follow-up
performance. Keep in mind he’d missed nearly a month of racing going into that start. He gets back on a regular rotation tonight.
(10) BLISSED OUT is a classy veteran who figures to have his work cut out for him tonight thanks in large part to the post position gods, who failed
to throw him a bone. He was third in last week’s return race against easier company at Flamboro Downs. He’s hard to recommend in here.
