KEY QUALIFICATIONS: 

Charles obtained a National Diploma in Forestry from Port Elizabeth Technikon in 1989 and was 

awarded a B.Tech degree in Forestry in 1999. He has had extensive experience in Environmental 

Management, including soil and plant mapping, environmental auditing, and has lectured at PE 

Technikon for the Departments of Forestry, Nature Conservation and Agriculture. He also spent a 

number of years as a Principle Environmental Officer with the Department of Environmental Affairs 

and Development Planning where he was primarily responsible for the evaluation and review of 

Environmental Impact Assessments and appeals on Records of Decision, as well as advising the 

competent authority and the MEC on law enforcement and environmental matters. Charles has 

gained substantive experience in the review of impact assessments for various Government 

departments and has maintained sound relationships with the respective authorities involved in 

environmental evaluation. He has carried out a variety of environmental assessments for a range 

of projects for both public and private sector developments. Charles is currently studying towards 

a Masters Degree in Environmental Law.
