SiiAPE : Glolnilar body; short, (lat foot.<br />

CoLoun : Reddish clay witli wliile slip: red painl willi very l'ainl lustre.<br />

Ornamemation : Broad bands round body; spiral on top of false neck, ending in a<br />

smaii knob; blol of paint on shoulder.<br />

Slighlly cliipped and corroded; marks of burning on bandle and spout.<br />

26134. Géométrie vase with lid. — Heiglit of howl o m. 09 cent., and of lid<br />

m. 07 cent., breadtli (without liandles) o m. i85 mill., breadtli of<br />

lid o m. 18 cent. (pi. 1).<br />

Shape : See pi. I. The ends of liandles curve oulwards. Tlie base is liât.<br />

CoLOUR : Pale reddish clay. Brown-black painl, varying to red.<br />

Ornamentation : Lid. — Star on top of knob, dots round rini and rings round neck.<br />

Belovv, plain bands. Belovv, a zone of chess-board paltern. Below, a zone of<br />

cross-hatched triangles with smali hatched triangles in the empty spaces above.<br />

Lines between the varions zones. Bowl. — Round upper part a frieze of various<br />

patterns, see pi. I : they are the same on the opposite side except that the triangles<br />

in the corners of the diamond patlern point outvvards instead of inwards. Below, a<br />

row of triangles as on lid. Below, a row of circles connected by tangents. Lines<br />

between the various patterns and round base. Handles ornamented with stars and<br />

vertical lines. Inside of bowl (not of lid) painted over, with exception of one narrow<br />

strip.<br />

Préservation : Lid put together out of five pièces; mended breaks on one side of bowl;<br />

smali pièce reslored in plaster.<br />

26135. «Milesian» amphora.— Heiglit m. 365 mill., breadtli o m. 36 e. —<br />

Saqcjarali, OctoberiSG^ (pl. I).<br />

Shape : See pl. I; handles two-ribbed; shori hollow foot.<br />

CoLOUR : Smooth white coat; reddened paint, with darker tinge hère and there.<br />

Ornamentation : On<br />

each side of neck a browsing ibex to left. On one side of shoulder,<br />

two bulls confronted, the one on the left with lowered head. On the other side, two<br />

sheep with long horns advancing towards each other; the lleece under their beilies<br />

is rendered by a zigzag iine; between ihem stands a smali Iree with wavy bran-<br />

ches. Below, a band containing a séries of various patterns. Below in the next
