OiiNAMENTATioN : Broad<br />

band on rim; below, upper part of naked figure dancing wilh<br />

upraised arms, turned to right and looking back to left; farlher to left, fragment of<br />

erotic group(i'); a pair of vertical strokes above. Inside black with slrip of red<br />

ground-colour along top.<br />

SiiAPE : From<br />

shoulder of vase with a concave curve.<br />

GoLOUR : Light red clay with yellowish linge; black glaze; accessory red and white.<br />

Ornamentation : Part of shoulder-panel, bordered by a black line. On the right,<br />

bearded figure draped in himation and holding spear, standing to right (complète<br />

but for feet); farther to left, similar figure with long bair and hair-band, seated on<br />

stool to right and holding spear (complète but for feet); next, bearded figure with<br />

long bair and band, naked but for chlamys over left arm, hastening to right with<br />

swinging arms and head turned back (right leg and half of left leg wanting); upper<br />

part of swan on ground, between stool and running figure. ïhe style is like that of<br />

the «affectedn <strong>vases</strong>.<br />

Technique : Inner markings and somc outlines incised; himatia bave borders of incised<br />

iines, some of which consist of rows of tiny incisions; louches of red on hair,<br />

garments, and flesh; white dots on hair-band, garments, and slool; slrip of while<br />

down edge of himation of figure on the right.<br />

Préservation : Surface sligbtly chipped and salted.<br />

26176. Black-figured kylix. — Heiglit o m. 08 cent., diani. m. i3 cent. —<br />

Bouglit, Alexandria, August 1888 (pi. VIII).<br />

Shape : See pi. VIII. The ncck is slightly concave.<br />

CoLouR :<br />

Red clay; black glaze; accessory red and white.<br />

Ornamentation : Broad black band round neck. Below on each side between handles,<br />

a panlher with head to front standing to right between Iwo rougbly drawn men<br />

draped in himatia who stand looking towards it. Under each handle a Siren
