Technique : Incised markings on goats; white applied directlv upon ground-colour<br />

except on rosettes.<br />

Préservation : Full and sealed with plaster : impression of cloth on ihe plaster and<br />

pièces of cloth still adhering to neck (a cloth having been laid over sealing and tied<br />

round neck); long crack on shoulder and body; a good deal of incrustation; paint<br />

much effaced in places.<br />

26227. Cinerary hydria. — Height o m. 890 mi 11. (pi. XIV).<br />

Shape : Handle has slight groove down back and cross-piece for thumb al top.<br />

CoLOUR : Light reddish clay with smooth yellowish surface; brown-black glaze.<br />

Ornamentation : Wreath of usual type round neck. Dots round foot of neck. On shoulder<br />

two dolphins confronted. On body, pattern in front consisting of a row of palmeltes<br />

surmounted by a cross-hatched band and a line of triangles along ihe top (see<br />

/^^u\ sketch); bordered by vertical cross-hatched bands. Behind, pendant<br />

/mwINS sprays below handle (see sketch); below sprays a long wavy branch with<br />

leaves arranged as on «reath round neck but without Connecting twigs; similar<br />

branches above the horizontal handles (one wavy and one straight); pattern behind<br />

bordered by cross-hatched vertical bands. Below, between bands, row of leaves<br />

goingright round. Usual horizontal bands on body, foot, and rini; dots round edge<br />

of rim; short bars on handles.<br />

Préservation : One<br />

of horizontal handles sluck on; end of the cross-piece on vertical<br />

handle chipped off; good deal of incrustation: paint gone in places.<br />

Cinerary hydria. — Ileight m. 4io mill. (pi. XV).<br />

Shape : Hat ridged handle Avilh cross-piece at top.<br />

CoLouR : Light red clay with smooth slip-surface of light yellow, almost white<br />

places; glaze varying from black to yellow.
