Mono: Taxali
Gary Taxali
After “Mono Shout”, “Mono Taxali” is the second title in the series
“Mono”, which documents the up-and-coming International generation
of artists and illustrators. This is the first authoritative monograph on
Gary Taxali, an award winning illustrator whose work has appeared in
Rolling Stone, Time, GQ and the New York Times. Born in India, in 1968,
his family moved to Toronto, Canada when he was one year old. He
graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1991 and began working
as a professional illustrator. In addition to his work as an illustrator he
has become known as a producer of vinyl toys and children’s books. In
2005, he launched his first vinyl toy, The Toy Monkey, which included
a special edition along with a silkscreen print commissioned by The
Whitney Museum of American Art in New York He has now set up his
own toy company, Chump Toys, which has produced the vinyl figures
OH NO and OH OH .
The Meaning Underground
Various
The Meaning Underground is a publication featuring a selection of
the best copywriting projects produced from 2006 to 2008. In order
to illustrate in detail the nuances of copywriting, the book has been
arranged in 9 sections, interconnected like underground stations. As
it is very difficult to limit a message to a single category on the basis
of a single concept, this book will feature a general classification of
concepts devised as a transport network, whose underground stations
are the nodes which make up the net. As in all the main Undergrounds,
the categories have different names and colours. Words, like trains,
are alive, mobile, curious, influenced and influential. Leafing through
the book will be like a trip: at any time you can decide whether to skip
from one station to another or discover random routes, which even
though still following a linear scheme, allow you to explore individual
landmarks and make comparisons between them.
