Ennead Profile Series 6
Various
The Ennead Profile Series is comprised of books on single buildings,
which together communicate the firm’s sensibilities. Corresponding to
Ennead Architects’ philosophy of creating a singular and appropriate
response to the particular program, site, and clients conditions, each
book is, itself, a distinct reflection of the individual building and its
makers. Known for powerful building designs for cultural, educational,
scientific and not-for-profit institutions, Ennead Architects, once
known as the Polshek Partnership, is a 150-person New York City
firm. The firm’s research-based design process sponsors the creation
of signature building designs that are expressive of an institution’s
philosophy and vision and address each project’s unique programmatic,
technical, aesthetic and environmental issues. The separate volumes
of Ennead Profile Series 6 feature the Natural History Museum of
Utah, Westchester Community College, Stanford Law School, Neukom
Building and New York City Center Renovation
Design for Education
Andrew Blum
Part of the Gensler Monograph series, Design for Education is a
timely survey of modern learning environments—from universities to
primary schools. Introduced by Andrew Blum, a contributing editor
at Metropolis, the book focuses on education’s need for facilities that
effectively support learning and accommodate growth and change
over time. At a time when the education sector in developed countries
is dealing with new budget realities, the book considers alternatives
such as building repositioning and multipurpose, 24/7 facilities. In
high-growth developing countries, it looks at the new campuses of
international institutions. Seventeen case studies provide a detailed
survey of the education sector’s current range of facilities. For each
project, the case studies document client intent, design response, key
features, and highlights of actual or expected performance.
