Senior Breakfast
The Class of 2012 was welcomed into the
Alumnae Association with an appreciation
breakfast held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012. The
2012 Alum of the Year and President of Ervin
& Smith, Sharon walsh Carleton ‘90, served
as the keynote speaker for the morning. Each
senior was invited to support the Marian Fund
by pledging a gift of $50 paid over four years,
beginning with a $5 gift their first year in college.
The Class of 2012 then recited Marian’s Alumna
Pledge, promising to honor, visit and support
the Marian family, following their graduation
from high school.

Alumnae Fan Night
On Thursday, February 16, 2012, alums and
their families were invited to show their
support for the Crusaders at the junior
varsity and varsity basketball games against
Benson High School. The alums and their
guests received complimentary admission
and popcorn; they were also registered to
win Marian apparel and gifts. In addition, two
current seniors provided face painting for
children of alumnae.

Legacy Lunch
For the seventh year in a row, Marian invited alumnae to celebrate the Marian legacy with their
grade-school aged daughter(s), niece(s) and granddaughter(s) at a special annual luncheon.
Over 130 guests attended the Marian Alumnae Board sponsored Legacy Lunch on Sunday,
April 1, 2012. The afternoon consisted of activities for children and legacy story telling based
on generations of Marian memories. Molly dolan witzenburg ‘86 and her daughters Maggie
‘14 and emily ‘16, served as the featured speakers for the afternoon. Molly shared stories from
her time at Marian in the ‘80’s, Maggie elaborated on her current experiences and involvement
at Marian, and Emily expressed her excitement for beginning her own Marian legacy this fall.
Thank you to Alumnae Board Chair Mary Tarsney kelly ‘86 and her committee for organizing
this wonderful event.

Cavel to Receive Secondary
Teacher of the Year Award
The Annual Archbishop’s Dinner for
Education celebrates the successes of
Catholic education and pays tribute to the
Archdiocese’s finest educators each fall. This
year, English teacher Connie Cavel ‘68 will
be honored with the Secondary Teacher of the
Year Award at the 35th Annual Archbishop’s
Dinner for Education on September 20,
2012. Honorees are nominated and selected
by a committee for their committment
and service to Catholic educatoin. The
countless letters of support from faculty,
administration, alums and board members
clearly depicts the impact that Connie has
made during her career as an educator. The
Marian community wishes to congratulate
and thank Connie for the impact she has
made on the countless young women she has
helped to inspire and educate.

MPower Luncheon
Mpower is an exciting new networking
program at Marian that gives current juniors
the unique opportunity to learn more about
their career interests by partnering with
Marian alumnae currently working within
those fields. This mentoring program not
only opens the door to job shadowing and
internship opportunities for students, it gives
alums the chance to give back to the school
they love! The students and their alumnae
mentors came together for the first time at a
special luncheon chaired by Alumnae Board
member, Mary Hendrix Schuele ‘82.
