Crusaders Claim Class A Soccer Title
The Crusaders took the Class A state soccer title after their 1-0 win over Lincoln Southeast on
May 14, 2012, at Creighton University’s Morrison Stadium. This is the eleventh state title for the
Crusaders, who shut out 17 opponents during an outstanding 19-1 season.
Marian Takes Gold at National Choral Festival in Dallas
Marian’s Select Women’s Choir and Chamber Choir traveled to Dallas, Texas, in March to
compete in the National Heritage/World Strides Choral Festival. Both choirs received 1st place,
making them eligible to compete in the invitation-only Festival of Gold Tournament next year.

Marian’s speech team competed in the NSAA State Speech Championship held in Kearney,
NE, where they placed 5th overall in Class A. The tournament was comprised of nearly 1,000
Nebraska high school students that compete annually in the association's second largest state
championship event. Six members of Marian’s speech team advanced to nationals and competed
at the National Catholic Forensic League Grand Tournament held in Baltimore, Maryland. Ty
o’neal ‘12 was the only student from Omaha to advance to the quarterfinals, where she placed
20th in the nation! “These girls rank among the best in the state and nation and are able to utilize
their public speaking skills for the rest of their lives,” head speech coach Luke Ostrander stated.
Nelsen Claims Singles Title

title with her 6-2, 6-1 win over top-seeded
Emma Schelble of Millard West during the
Class A State Tennis Tournament.
Congressional Art Competition
annie Townley ‘12 was congratulated for her winning
artwork by Congressman Lee Terry.
Annie’s pencil self portrait will hang in the Washington
office for the entire year.

place for her pencil self-portrait in the 2012
Congressional Art Competition for District 2 in
Nebraska. Her artwork also received a gold key,
the highest rating in the 2012 Scholastic Art and
Writing Competition.
