With sincere love for the job, he attended hundreds of fundraisers, award
ceremonies, games, and graduations. He watched as thousands of girls reached
their potentials, knowing he was a vital part of their success. To watch Miller
coach is to observe someone truly in his element. With a calm and determined
demeanor it’s no surprise he has driven Marian girls to such success. As his athletes
signed commitments to colleges, won awards, and shared in team relationships
that would last forever, the Marian, Omaha and Nebraska community became
mindful of the fact that Miller’s talents and dedication allowed girls to strive
beyond greatness and reach beyond their goals and expectations. Miller’s talent
and success was rewarded many times over with accolades including election
election to the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame for Coaching (2011), Nebraska
Coaches Association Girls Basketball Award (2007), Metro Basketball Association
Girls Coach of the Year (2001), Nebraska Girls Coach of the Year (2000) and
Nebraska State Athletic Administrators Association Athletic Director of the Year
(2005).
Over the years, Miller’s students have shed tears as they graduated, grateful for
his unwavering dedication and leadership during their time at Marian. Now that
the tears and gratitude are for Miller himself, the Marian community sends out a
sincere and heartfelt goodbye to one of its true legends. Although he will continue
to serve the Marian community over-seeing the development of the Mary Joy and
Tal Anderson Performing Arts Center, his decreased presence will be felt by all
who know him. With 39 years as a coach, director, mentor, and one of Marian’s
biggest fans, Miller leaves his mark on so much more than just its championship
banners.
Rochelle Rohlfs, Marian math teacher and head volleyball coach, was named
athletic director shortly after Miller announced his retirement. Rohlfs has
coached the volleyball team for 23 years, has led Marian to two state titles and
three runner-up finishes. She will remain as the volleyball coach and will serve
as vice principal in addition to her duties as athletic director.
