2.10 Winterization and Demobilization
Winterization of the site was performed to prevent rain damage to the site
during the seasonal rains.
Site winterization consisted of sealing the site against rainwater
infiltration, securing the site against outside intrusion, and removing
rainwater that had collected in the building.
To protect the site from rain, visquene was placed over the street curb to
liner joint, the HDPE liner was completely covered with sand, the sono
tubes were sealed with visquene and duct tape, and plywood was propped over
the gap between the building and the concrete containment curb.
The site perimeter was secured by placing temporary fencing along the
backyard of the Madison residence, by wiring shut the gap in the Shafter
Street access gate, and by securely locking all site doors and gates.
Samples of water were collected from the drum storage area inside the
building and sent to DHS laboratories for chemical analyses. These results
have been forwarded to Tommy Lee of the SFDPW. A temporary sump pump has
been placed in the drum storage area, and Mr. Lee has approved the
discharge of any water collected into the city sewer system.
