As shown in Table 24, cereals <strong>for</strong>m the basis <strong>of</strong> both urban and rural household diets across<br />
dietary diversity groups. While rural households with weak dietary diversity scores limit their<br />
intake to cereals, urban households with similar scores complement their cereal intake with oils.<br />
Oils and fish are present in the diets <strong>of</strong> households with medium and high dietary diversity<br />
scores, while fruits and meat are the exclusive domain <strong>of</strong> households boasting high dietary<br />
diversity scores.<br />

Table 25 (below) illustrates that the distribution <strong>of</strong> dietary diversity scores is not homogeneous<br />
across regions. Sahel, Est and Boucle du Mouhoun display the largest preponderance <strong>of</strong> weak<br />
dietary diversity scores. The fact that Boucle de Mouhoun is a high production area yet suffers<br />
from weak dietary diversity might be indicative <strong>of</strong> a bifurcation in the production system, i.e. a<br />
