Plansee High Performance Materials
Components for the extraction of
ions in implanters
Mass-produced high voltage switch
contact components
PVD applications laboratory
Highlights
Optimizing spare parts
A computer chip’s electrical pro-
perties are defined in ion implantation
equipment. Through its
“Advanced Standard”, Plansee
delivers highly sophisticated spare
parts along the entire beam path
in ion implantation, guaranteeing
prolonged service life, minimal
maintenance work and simplified
spare parts handling.
Switching electricity
From prototypes to mass-production,
Plansee develops and
produces high-precision switch
contact systems for switching
high and ultra-high voltages up
to 1200 kilovolts. Being based in
close proximity to the customer
is crucial for developing components
which are ready to install.
Consequently Plansee is expanding
its local presence worldwide.
Optimizing layer by layer
Functional layers for flat
screens, solar cells and tools
are developed and optimized in
Plansee’s applications laboratory.
Plansee manufactures the
necessary coating materials
such as sputter targets and arc
cathodes both as prototypes
and in large production runs.
Shielding radiation
In radiotherapy, collimators
use hundreds of delicate heavy
metal leaves to accurately reproduce
the contours of tumors and
direct radiation to the diseased
tissue with extreme precision.
Plansee supplies individual
leaves as well as motorized collimators
ready to use.
Generating radiation
The production of X-rays in
powerful X-ray machines and CT
scanning equipment generates
temperatures in excess of 2000
degrees Celsius. As a refractory
metal composite, X-ray rotary
anodes are an active element of
the radiation source and able to
withstand extreme temperatures
long-term.
Mastering complexity
In nuclear fusion, highperformance
heat exchangers
discharge vast amounts of heat
from the reactors. This requires
components made of high-tech
materials which can withstand
the resulting thermomechanical
stresses and where the different
materials such as copper and
graphite are bound together in
an extremely resilient mixture.
