Afro-Colombian Committee
the third week of June
- ADAM assisted AMUNAFRO in
the process of obtaining a grant
(for office equipment and
facilities) from PADF, which was
awarded in June. The committee
through IOM established
activities for governance
strengthening in municipalities
associated to AMUNAFRO
ADAM drafted and presented to
the committee its proposal of the
strategic plan to promote Afro-
Colombian population
participation in local government
development plans and in
alternative development value
chains. The committee now
needs to reach consensus on
the integrated protocol.
The committee has been
working with the Ministry of
Interior to elaborate a draft
decree to rule three chapters of
the Ley 70/93, which entails
Afro-Colombian political
inclusion and special jurisdiction.

Vice-ministry of Justice, and
MIDAS to assign specific
responsibilities in the
implementation of the decree

Women’s Committee
Objectives:
- Implement the campaign “More Women, Better Politics” to support women’s participation in
local decision making processes.
- Promote the participation of international organizations in the campaign.
- Promote dissemination of best practices on women’s political participation in the country.
- Carry out communication campaigns to disseminate information on the political status of
women and their impact in politics in the country.
The Women’s Committee was established in March of 2006.
Participants:
The President’s Office through the Consejería para la Equidad de la Mujer, UNIFEM, GTZ, NDI,
FCM, FENACON, USAID, and ADAM.

The Campaign acknowledged
the INSTRAWs report on women
social and political participation,
as a preliminary diagnosis to be
taken into account in future
training courses.
In May 2007, USAID supported
an international summit Women
and Power” in which current
women leaders from Asia,
Africa, and the Americas
The campaign will launch the
ranking of political parties in
Colombia with gender
sensitive approaches.
ADAM will provide resources
for training sessions in August
and September with women
candidates in Huila, Nariño,
