Randee Rosenfeld
These days, it almost seems like a photographer is born every minute—so
it’s not always easy to stand out in a crowd. Unless of course, you’re
Randee Rosenfeld.
Upon first glance, Rosenfeld, the owner of Photography by Randee, appears
to be a standard portrait photographer, doing weddings, beach photos,
engagement photos and kids portraits. And while it’s true that she does do all
of those things, her photography goes deeper than one would imagine by just
viewing her Facebook page (Photography by Randee).
Rosenfeld, who studied photography at Stockton, along with a major in
communications and a minor in Jewish Studies, Holocaust and Genocide, has
used her photography to document some of the most intimate of tragedies.
From capturing the images of dozens of local Holocaust survivors to
photographing infants who are stillborn or have suffered neonatal deaths for
their families to have something to hold onto, Rosenfeld is privy to the most
private experiences of people’s lives.
“I’m a very emotional person,” Rosenfeld said, explaining, “I cried on Coach
(the 90s sitcom) when the dog died...(but) how can I say ‘no’ to these families?”
And while her work is often emotionally loaded, Rosenfeld is honored to

be capturing the legacies of those she photographs. “I had relatives in the
Holocaust and a family member who escaped Auschwitz,” Rosenfeld said of her
series of survivor photographs, adding, “There won’t be survivors alive much
longer...we will have to continue their legacy for them.”
Though Rosenfeld is deeply invested in the survivor series of photos, and in
fact her photos and accompanying interviews were included in both Portraits
of Resilience: Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey as well as the updated and
expanded follow-up edition, Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey: Portraits of
Resilience, she didn’t intend to be a photographer.
In fact, it was at the urging of a friend of hers that she enter photography
at all. While on break from West Virginia University, where Rosenfeld began
her undergraduate degree, a friend invited her to take a photography class
with her over the summer at ACCC. Rosenfeld wasn’t interested. The friend
persisted, even offering to share her camera. Rosenfeld acquiesced. As it turns
out, the friend hated the class, and Rosenfeld loved it. It was the beginning of
something big.
In addition to pursuing photography as a course of study at Stockton,
Rosenfeld tapped into her own unique style as well as her love of adventure,
leading her to photograph some hugely important events. From photographing
a space shuttle launch at NASA to capturing the trip of Holocaust survivors
as they returned to Germany and re-live their experiences in Nazi Germany,
from their births to their captivity and release, to being the only person
given permission to photograph author elie Wiesel when he came to Beth el
Synagogue in Margate in 2004, Rosenfeld has captured iconic moments.
Though Rosenfeld has photographed some truly heart wrenching moments,
she maintains a positive and uplifting demeanor. And it’s her personality, in
addition to her skills and experience that make her such a hot commodity
in the photography world. Besides having a client list that includes Shore
Memorial Hospital, TJ Maxx/Marshalls, Jewish Family Services and New Motion
Dance Studio, among others, Rosenfeld does portrait work on location or at
her studio, located in Galloway.
From weddings and engagements to bar mitzvahs and parties, Rosenfeld
does it all. One of her specialties is photographing children. “My friends call
me the baby whisperer,” Rosenfeld joked. But with an uncanny knack for
gaging personalities, including the foresight to book extra-long sessions with
newborns, Rosenfeld is definitely a favorite of parents.
Kimberly Kaczmarksi, whose two year old twins were photographed by Randee
when they were born, offered, “I was so grateful to have such an amazing
picture that reflected the sweetness of two babies. We bought into a package
from her that she would take our children’s pictures for the next year or so.
Being a busy wife, mom of three and working full-time it was great to already
have arranged sessions and know that we would have cherished photos.
Randee was very easy going and very accommodating to our schedule. I now
have an amazing collage on my wall of my favorite works of art taken by
Randee.”
