Robert Loefflad, Esq. Though attorney Robert Loefflad is well experienced <strong>in</strong> a wide range of civil litigation matters, he chooses to focus his practice at Ford Flower Hasbrouck & K<strong>in</strong>g—where he has been s<strong>in</strong>ce June 2012—on family law and bankruptcy. He is well aware that his choice doesn’t necessarily reflect the views of other attorneys. “Some attorneys don’t want to work <strong>in</strong> family law...they don’t like it...but I don’t see it as different than any other field of law,” Loefflad expla<strong>in</strong>ed. After all, Loefflad cont<strong>in</strong>ued, he knows of bus<strong>in</strong>ess dissolutions that have become as contentious as any divorce. In addition to his unique viewpo<strong>in</strong>t, both Loefflad and his clients benefit from his laid-back and calm demeanor. “I like deal<strong>in</strong>g <strong>with</strong> my clients...I’m a good personality fit for family law,” Loefflad expla<strong>in</strong>ed. And while Loefflad admits that there are some cases that very heart-wrench<strong>in</strong>g, he has learned not to get emotionally <strong>in</strong>volved, <strong>with</strong> either the clients, or his opponents <strong>in</strong> the courtroom. “You have to get used to not hold<strong>in</strong>g grudges,” Loefflad expla<strong>in</strong>ed of our tight knit legal community, add<strong>in</strong>g, “You do the best you can <strong>with</strong> each case, but one case can’t affect the next case you may have <strong>with</strong> the same attorney. You must always act professionally and courteously <strong>with</strong> <strong>your</strong> legal adversaries regardless of past experience.” As for his bankruptcy expertise, Loefflad handles short sales, mortgage modifications, and debt relief, and prefers to help clients f<strong>in</strong>d solutions before rely<strong>in</strong>g on bankruptcy as an answer. Loefflad and his colleagues are particularly <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> help<strong>in</strong>g community members who are suffer<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>ancial hardships as a result of Hurricane Sandy. While Loefflad jo<strong>in</strong>ed his current firm last June, his experience dates back almost two decades. After grow<strong>in</strong>g up <strong>in</strong> Somers Po<strong>in</strong>t and attend<strong>in</strong>g St. Joe’s and then Ma<strong>in</strong>land Regional High School, from which he graduated <strong>in</strong> 1989, Loefflad attended Villanova University, where he double-majored <strong>in</strong> political science as well as the Villanova Honors program. Upon his 1993 graduation, Loefflad attended law school at Villanova University School of Law, and was admitted to the Bar of the State of New Jersey <strong>in</strong> 1996. After graduat<strong>in</strong>g, Loefflad returned to his native South Jersey, where he began work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>with</strong> Attorney Seth Grossman, who was <strong>in</strong> general practice <strong>in</strong> Somers Po<strong>in</strong>t. The small general practice provided Loefflad <strong>with</strong> a lot of exposure to all types of law, and he became a partner <strong>in</strong> the firm after about five years. While Loefflad values the experience he received work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>with</strong> Grossman—Loefflad left the practice <strong>in</strong> 2012—he is very happy at Ford Flower Hasbrouk & K<strong>in</strong>g. “It’s the best of both worlds,” Loefflad expla<strong>in</strong>ed of work<strong>in</strong>g at the seven attorney firm. “It’s still a small practice, but we have top notch legal software, paralegals, and office staff, and it’s great to be able to kick ideas around <strong>with</strong> my colleagues.” In addition to his practice, Loefflad is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the community around him—both the legal community as well as Atlantic County. With<strong>in</strong> the legal community, Loefflad serves on the executive board of the V<strong>in</strong>cent C. Haneman Inns of Court, where he participates <strong>in</strong> a mentorship program designed to encourage and advise younger attorneys. With<strong>in</strong> Atlantic County, Loefflad serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Atlantic County. Loefflad got <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the program <strong>in</strong> 2007, and firmly believes <strong>in</strong> it. “It does a world of good for the kids,” expla<strong>in</strong>ed Loefflad, add<strong>in</strong>g, “It gives them a mentor and a second chance...every child should have a mentor.” When he isn’t work<strong>in</strong>g for his clients or the community he calls home, Loefflad is <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> one of his favorite pasttimes—volleyball. Loefflad began play<strong>in</strong>g dur<strong>in</strong>g summers <strong>in</strong> high school and college, and never stopped. Now <strong>in</strong> his 23rd year <strong>with</strong> the Ventnor City Recreational Volleyball League, he has the perfect outlet for himself after long work hours and community <strong>in</strong>volvement.
