Section 2 - Course Administration Who is the course for? This is an introductory course for adults who are interested or newly involved in working with Community Groups and Individuals. How long will the course last? The course will last for 40 hours, which is divided into 30 hours tutored work, plus 10 hours practice placement work. However, it is recommended that each participant will allocate 15 hours of their own time for personal study and preparation for their practice placement and assignments. Do I need any previous knowledge, skills or qualifications? There are no entry requirements for this course but a basic literacy qualification at Level 2 would be helpful. What will I do on the course? You will learn about the history, principles and educational nature of Community Work. You will also gain an understanding of the key personal skills required to become an effective Community Worker. This course has been designed to give the participants an insight into the field of community work in a community learning environment. The course is aimed to act as a catalyst for those participants who wish to work on a part time or voluntary basis or pursue a career in Community Learning and Development. The course will introduce participants to the field of community work so that they can experience the various elements and areas involved in working with communities. 13
