snow and ice - and thereby save water resources - on
a small part of the glacier by spreading a temporary
protective geo-textile sheet. The project provided valuable
data about the glacier - essential for any conservation
response to the natural melting process. In the summer
of 2010, the focus of research moved into areas of hidden
ice at high altitudes - the permafrost that is embedded in
rock - which is considered a sensitive indicator of climate
change. Throughout the following year, thermometers
were embedded in the rock at altitudes of 3,600 metres,
recording the changing heat levels and nature of the
permafrost.
The findings from these studies will help scientists
to better understand the formation, consistency and
variation of alpine permafrost, and contribute to a detailed
mapping of the main Italian glaciers, establishing their
current state and evolution over time.
From the source to the bottle, Levissima cares deeply
the future, to make sure the Power of Purity will endure.
“ECO
DE LOS ANDES
The heights
of pure vitality
This journey begins high in the awe-inspiring Argentinean
Andes, one of the purest locations on earth. From
this extraordinary birthplace, Eco de los Andes natural
mineral water follows a magnificent course through the
Andean Cordillera, developing its distinctive identity.
ECO DE LOS ANDES -
In spring and summer, melting snow on Mount Blanco
(4,300 metres) and Mount Punta Negra (4,312 metres)
flows into the Arroyo Grande basin that lies between
these two giants, forming the aquifer for our mineral
water. From here, the water races down slopes and
meanders through an exceptional landscape before
being tapped in the still remote foothills, located at an
altitude of 942 metres, 1,000 kilometres from Buenos
Aires.
Along the way, through varied geological formations,
including igneous rocks that are 250 million years old,
the water acquires a rare composition - low sodium
content and a pleasant mineral balance - and above all,
absolute purity.
protecting the aquifer
The aquifer is a natural treasure and a precious
asset for the Eco de los Andes brand. Since 1996,
the quantity and the quality of the water have been
monitored, creating an on-going record which will
help ensure the aquifer’s future.
