Designed primarily as a screening tool for the detection
of physical child abuse. It contains a total of 10 scales.
The primary clinical scale (Abuse) can be divided into six
factor scales: Distress, Rigidity, Unhappiness, Problems
With Child and Self, Problems With Family, and
Problems With Others. In addition, the CAP Inventory
contains three validity scales: Lie, Random Response, and
Inconsistency.
160 items total; 77 items CAP Abuse scale,

Intended to be faithful to Bandura’s concept of selfefficacy
as being highly situation- or domain-specific, in
contrast to other, more global parental self-efficacy
scales. Items address mothers’ feelings of efficacy in
relation to specific, delimited domains of infant care.
Item scores are summed to create a maternal self-efficacy
score.
