ABOUT JITP JITP is an Outgrowth of Years of Parenting Education Field Work in many Cooperative Extension states and programs. Since the 1970s age-paced parenting newsletters have been delivered to parents, offering them information about their children’s development, nutrition, health and safety information, and other research-based caregiving information. These series’ took many names, such as Cradle Crier, Parenting the First Year, and Baby’s First Wish. They were highly successful – reaching large numbers of new parents with easy to read parenting information, delivered at the time most useful to the parent, at no cost, and through local collaborations. Evaluations of these efforts revealed the age paced newsletter to be not only popular with parents, but also effective at raising knowledge, encouraging confidence, and stimulating positive parenting behaviors. eXtension brought together the team of parenting newsletter project specialists from around the country to accomplish a long-shared goal: to create a national Extension parenting newsletter series that could be disseminated across state lines, yet possess the same instructional strengths and researched-based information as state-based newsletters. Even better, the national newsletter could be brought to parents in a variety of formats, including online delivery. Parents can Access Just in Time Parenting Online. Parents can read the age-paced information on the eXtension site by finding the site through online searching (e.g., Google), internet links to the site, internal searching for information, and from directly seeking the JITP site. Once on the site they can read information that meets their interest and/or they can sign up for a free subscription to the online age-paced newsletter. An advantage to signing up for the newsletter is the convenience of a timely reminder and link sent by e-mail each month. The web link takes them directly to the newsletter that coincides with the age by month of their infant. Institutional Review Board Approval. eXtension has received approval from the Institutional Review Board at the University of Nebraska to conduct evaluations of its programs.
