sexual activities the whole day long, at least for those Muslims<br />

who are not sick, not pregnant, not travelling, not too young<br />

or too old. As solidarity is a key word in Sédhiou, foreigners<br />

are constantly called on to participate in fasting that serves as<br />

a means of purification and reinforcement of spirituality. In<br />

the evening the family comes together and as soon as the<br />

Imam starts his prayer, people break their fasting, starting<br />

with tea or coffee followed by a plate of rice with fish or<br />

spaghetti. In the end of Ramadan there is a big celebration<br />

called Korite which is accompanied by visits to the mosque,<br />

family and friends. On this day the fourth pillar of Islam, giving<br />

a part of your belongings to the poor, is especially important -<br />

you can enter any house in Sédhiou and are the most<br />

welcome to share a plate with the locals!<br />

The Tabaski takes place two month after Ramadan as a<br />
