Before a new bird is banded several matters should be taken <strong>in</strong>to<br />
consideration. First on the list is the type <strong>of</strong> bird to be banded. All but the very long-<br />
legged species are best r<strong>in</strong>ged on the tarsometatarsus where the band is always <strong>in</strong> a<br />
pla<strong>in</strong> view. Storks,herons cranes and flam<strong>in</strong>goes, ibises, spoonbills are better banded<br />
above the „hock‟ on the tibiotarsus, aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> pla<strong>in</strong> view, even though the bird may be<br />
