Task: Get Familiar with CLI<br />
Use Hyperterminal P.E as console for your router Rx<br />
New Connection -> name it console_to_Rx<br />
9600, 8, N<br />
Login procedure:<br />
Username: cisco<br />
Password: cisco<br />
Rx><br />
Switch to Privileged-mode:<br />
Rx> enable<br />
Enter Enable Password: wan<br />
Rx#<br />
Perform the following show commands:<br />
sh users, sh version<br />
sh running-config, sh startup-config<br />
sh logging<br />
sh flash<br />
sh processes cpu<br />
Set Date and Time via EXEC command<br />
find the right syntax by using ? (-> context sensitive help)<br />
clock<br />

Task: Get Familiar with Configuration Mode<br />
Switch to configuration-mode:<br />
Rx# configure terminal or specify conf t<br />
Create a login banner message<br />
Rx(config)# banner login *Your Fancy Message*<br />
* is acting as delimiter<br />
Create username/password for next login<br />
Rx(config)#username pcx password pcx<br />
x … is your PC number (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8)<br />
Leave configuration-mode<br />
Rx(config)# Ctrl Z or exit<br />
Logout<br />
Rx# exit or quit or logout<br />
then start terminal session again with CR (carriage return)<br />
Login with your new username/password to test your new<br />
account and see your created banner message<br />
