Necessity of <strong>the</strong> colour<br />
Quarks are required to be fermions with spin ½<br />
<strong>and</strong> according to <strong>the</strong> Pauli principle <strong>the</strong>y cannot<br />
occupy <strong>the</strong> same state.<br />
The quantum state has to be antisymmetric with<br />
respect to <strong>the</strong> exchange of all quantum numbers<br />
of <strong>the</strong> <strong>quark</strong>s.<br />
