History, quark model and the SU(3)-symmetry

History
• up to the beginning of the 20th century the
common view in physics was that the
Coulomb-force is responsible for the formation
of atoms.
• with the discovery of the neutron it became
clear, that there must be an unknown
interaction “gluing” the nucleons in the core
together.
• Quantumchromodynamics (QCD) was
established much later but this was the
beginning.
