• Murray Gell-Mann <strong>and</strong> Yuval Ne´eman<br />
postulated in 1964 that hadrons can be<br />
constructed from a number of fundamental<br />
particles called '<strong>quark</strong>s'.<br />
• almost at <strong>the</strong> same time George Zweig<br />
proposed <strong>the</strong> same idea <strong>and</strong> he coined <strong>the</strong><br />
fundamental particles 'aces'.<br />
