Dr. Jeong Tai KIM is a Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Architectural <strong>Engineering</strong> at<br />

Kyung Hee University located in Republic<br />

<strong>of</strong> Korea. He got his doctoral degree from<br />

Yonsei University, Korea in the area <strong>of</strong><br />

architectural lighting. His pr<strong>of</strong>essional life<br />

is densely filled with research, practice,<br />

publication, and teaching for the growth <strong>of</strong><br />

environment-friendly architecture. He has<br />

been directing the “Light and Architectural<br />

Environment Laboratory (LAEL)”<br />

nominated as the National Research<br />

Laboratory (NRL) by Korea Government<br />

since July 2001 and the first NRL in field<br />

<strong>of</strong> lighting and architecture.<br />

The Center for Sustainable Healthy<br />

Buildings (CSHeB)<br />

The Center for Sustainable Healthy<br />

Buildings (CSHeB) has been nominated as<br />

an ERC in September <strong>of</strong> 2008. It dedicates to<br />

the advancement <strong>of</strong> new ideas, substantiation<br />

<strong>of</strong> related researches, international<br />

cooperation, the training <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essionals,<br />

and the growth <strong>of</strong> pragmatic knowledge in<br />

the field <strong>of</strong> healthy building design, control,<br />

construction, operation and management.<br />

As the director <strong>of</strong> the CSHeB, he has tried<br />

to establish an outstanding R&D center<br />

with global competitiveness by providing<br />

on-site research facilities, formulating<br />

synergistic interconnection with interdisciplinary<br />

researchers, and promoting<br />

collaboration and cooperation with various<br />

industries, government departments, and<br />

international universities. He also plays a<br />

key role in promoting sustainable healthy<br />

building technologies academically by<br />

hosting international symposiums,<br />

seminars, and workshops. During the last 5<br />

years as director <strong>of</strong> CSHeB, he presented<br />

lots <strong>of</strong> research outcomes on various<br />

aspects <strong>of</strong> the health design works in terms<br />

<strong>of</strong> sustainable environment.<br />

Research Grant<br />

Total research grant is approximately<br />

US$ 15 million for 10 years (September <strong>of</strong><br />

2008 to February <strong>of</strong> 2018) including<br />

Government, University and industries’ fund.<br />

COE & ERC<br />

The <strong>Engineering</strong> Research Center (ERC) <strong>of</strong><br />

the Center <strong>of</strong> Excellence (COE), funded by<br />

Ministry <strong>of</strong> Education, Science and Technology,<br />

and National Research Foundation <strong>of</strong><br />

Korea has been established for purpose <strong>of</strong><br />

systematizing a pool <strong>of</strong> excellent university<br />

researchers across the country and fostering<br />

a team <strong>of</strong> world-class leading scientists by<br />

providing intensive support for them.
